These handicap races never cease to amaze me… we catch a field of nine set to go seven panels on the main AQU oval in The Bed o Roses Hcp (GII).  A very nice field in this one, and I’ll take the high-weight, Smokin Cara… she just won the Derby City (GI), and thus the extra impost on her back.  She’s only had two starts this year, so the weight may be a bit more manageable for a fresh horse, or, at least that’s how I’m justifying it.  Let’s go to the far outside and take Penal Partido Rene and put that one in the second spot.  She’s a very consistent type and has been close in a couple of grade one races… winning her other two ’24 starts.  She was fourth in the Derby City (GI), and the weight difference will certainly help this one.  The Green Card went a different way, as weight certainly plays a bigger part in those numbers, and the card has been hot.
