3 AQU The Comely (GIII)
$200.000 3yoF 1 1/8m Dirt 122lbs +penalties
Friday in NY and with what should be a brisk chill in the air, we look at the field for The Comely (GIII), a mile and an eighth test for three year old fillies on the main track. It’s a very nice group and I’m giving Anivia the slightest edge to get the win today. She’s in tough, but looked good at PIM back in the spring and won her most recent start at CD where she scored vs. stakes company. Let’s go to the outside posts for the other two selections and it wouldn’t surprise me if either of these takes home the win. Creepy Crawlies has won some big purses this year and the mile and an eighth distance may be just what she wants. The big barn doesn’t play around and this girl can run! Hot Summer was the runner-up in the BC Juv as a 2yo and looked good winning at BEL last out. Her best would be hard to get past. It could go any number of ways, but let’s run to the window, get the bets in early then get a good spot to watch this one… it should be a humdinger!!
Here’s The Field –

Hardliners Lady | TwinTowersRacing | Castellano J J | 122 | 10/1 |
Two wins on the season and those came back-to-back in the spring where she broke maiden and took down Alw foes. She’s never been with stakes company but does come into this one off of a second at KEE vs high-end Alw foes. Can she step up to the next level and be a factor here?
|
Anivia | BomBay Stables | McCarthy T | 122 | 5/2 |
Only six starts for this one and she has a pair of wins and a second from that small sample. She got the job done at CD last out taking the Seneca and she was also the runner-up in the Black-eyed Susan back in the spring. Her best would certainly make her a huge factor, and I think she’s going to fire big today.
|
Bronx Belle | Arindel | Ortiz J L | 122 | 12/1 |
She’s still looking for her first ’21 victory although she shows a trio of runner-up finishes. She was last of nine in that graded race at SAR two back and did show a bit of life vs. Alw foes at FL in her most recent. She’s going to need her very best to be any parts of this one.
|
Table For One | Alydar Stables | Cancel E | 122 | 9/2 |
She’s won half of her eight ’21 starts and adds in a second and a third, as well. She had a pair of races recently where she just couldn’t find her best footing, both on the grass, but won a nice high-end Alw race at KEE last out to set her up well for this one. She may have some odds as well… so…
|
Sexy Angelina | Night Rider Stables | Lezcano J | 122 | 10/1 |
Another lightly raced filly and this is her first trip vs. stakes types. Back to back wins breaking maiden at GG then taking down Alw horses on a sloppy strip at PID. She was second last out at SA taking on Cal-bred Alw horses, so it’s not going to get any easier here today.
|
Creepy Crawlies | Mb Stables | Alvarado J | 122 | 3/1 |
A pair of wins for this one in ’21 including the Honeybee (GIII) at OP and the WO Oaks… so she’s put some nice cash in the bank. She also has a trio of of thirds this year, and was fourth in the Cotillion (GI) at PRX in her most recent. Mb Stables comes for the cash, so use her on your tickets.
|
Hot Summer | D J C Racing Stables | Franco M | 122 | 7/2 |
She got her first win of the season last out taking the Empire Distaff at BEL, drawing away to win by three on a wet surface. She has a runner-up finish in the FG Oaks (GII) and a pair of thirds, both vs. nice graded foes, so she is certainly a horse that should be used as you head to the windows.
