Out to The Great Race Place and SoCal where a nice group of Cal-bred sophomores will be testing their metal in The CA Cup Derby.  As expected, this one drew tough as everyone sets their sights on the first Saturday in May and a trip to Louisville, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves quite yet.  I think the post time favorite will be Spirit Believer and he’s my top selection as well.  He won the Sapling, and gets the two pound add for that one, and was also second in the Iroquois (GIII) and fourth last out in the Remsen (GII) so this may be a bit softer for him… the the weight make enough of a difference?  Kailua Island is two for two and looks to be any type, so let’s give him a shot in this one.  He’s raced with some very nice horses, and held his own, plus the barn is sharp… he’s a nice horse.  Another that could be any types is Raise It… he broke maiden (DH) at CD in Nov, and the other horse in that photo came back to be second in the Smarty Jones… a couple of the others in that race seem pretty good, so that was a key race.
