$100.000 4yo&Up F&M 1 1/16m Turf 123lbs +penalties
The rain continues to fall in SoCal, but that didn’t matter to Nijinsky… the famously named gray filly, conditioned by Team 7 Illusions, stalked the pace, moved up when asked and drew away to take the Astra Stakes by two widening lengths while stopping the timer at 2:324 for the marathon mile and a half. The turf was listed as soft. Era Of Nebraska set the pace to mid-way on the far turn, but just didn’t have enough to go with the winner, while clearly second best in this one. Conquering Nun was three lengths back of that one, in third, then another length to Ghost, taking the minor purse share. Fourteen lengths covered the field.
