3 SA Triple Bend Stakes (GII)
$200.000 4yo&Up 7f Dirt 123lbs + penalties
These big sprint races are always interesting, and we get a field of nine headed to the chute for the Triple Bend Stakes (GII) a seven-furlong sprint for the older gents. The Green Card says to headed to opposite ends of the starting gate if you are makin’ a wager and puts Retaliate on-top. Drawing the rail can be a good/bad thing with the extended run down the backside, but he sure looked good winning the San Carlos (GIII), but he did tire a bit late in the CD (GI) although I wonder if that was more about instructions than a wet track. It’s a sharp outfit, so expect this one to bounce back big. Then we head out to the far outside post and Surprise Authority in the second spot, that one fresh off of a win here in Kona Stakes (GIII). He was tagged in a $100.000 claimer, two races back, and has been tough in both starts for this barn, so no reason not to expect more of the same.
