10 GP The Pan American (GII)
$215.000 4yo&Up 11/2 Mile InTurf 124lbs +penalties
The non-existent inner turf will be the surface for Saturday’s Pan American (GII), a marathon mile and a half test for the older handicap types. Again, The Card and I are not even close to seeing this the same way… bet with caution… but I’ve gone with Chagrin Falls as the top pick. Two starts this year, both at a distance and both vs. graded types, so he’s loaded and ready to run big again. He won the Connally BC Turf (GIII) at HOU, and that was at this distance. He backed that up with a solid second in the Diamond, over this course. He’s a solid turfer, even at 7yo. Let’s looks for Martinez to run another big race. He looked solid winning the San Marcos (GIII) at SA in his most recent trip to the gate, and his second start for this barn. He’s run well at the extended distance, and I expect him to live up to those am gallops, as well. I like a couple others, but let’s keep this short and sweet and try to nail down the exacta.
