Northern NM and SRP, at least we get some good food. Today, we catch a group that will be running the abbreviated four and a half furlongs in the SRP Stakes. The Crucible seems to have the hot hand right now, winning four in a row and all three of his ’22 starts, so let’s stick with him today. He won at this distance over the GP main track and I can’t get past him in this one. I think Angelos Stable has a solid one/two punch and I took Never Go Raw as my second choice today. I like his speed and if he can flex those muscles with the inside position, he could be tough.
Here’s The Field –
Has shown good speed and has a pair of seconds vs. Fla-bred stakes company, so he fits real well with this group. I think you have to give this one a big look today and he could be tough to get past going down the lane.
Second half of this Angelos Stable coupling and he closed well to get up at 5f last out, turning it around a bit. He switches over to the main track where he doesn’t have a win, but does show a couple of runner up effort, so he’s another that could be in the hunt.
His best would make him tough, but his last pair of race have been tough, only beating one horse in those two outings. If he can run back to last summer’s efforts, he could surprise us all.
Up and down type that was on the board in a couple of stakes races, then ran last of ten at ELP before being sold and ran tenth of eleven for the new barn. They sold, and he tired to be fourth of five at HOU on the grass, so he needs to turn it around.
He’s been going a mile or more, including a mile and a half last out, now turns it back to the abbreviated sprint we see here. He hasn’t been on the lead in any of those races, so he’s a bit of a wildcard in this one and I’m not sure what we will get.
He’s been on the grass before taking down sprinters on the main track at PEN running for free. He got the job done in fairly quick fashion, so it’s back to the cash races and he does have the speed.
Ding Ding Ding, I think we have our choice. Four wins in a row and won at the distance in very quick time last out at GP… although GP doesn’t run at that distance, but I digress. He’s got the quick hops to make this his day in the sun… see what I did there?
He’s been flexing his muscle vs. much much softer, but has been showing speed, so he has to be given a puncher’s chance in this kind of race. Only one start this year, so he’s making his first start in 90 days or so.
Well he’s certainly shown a ton of speed in his races, and steps up in class after being purchased from the March Auction. He won his only ’22 start, a seven furlong sprint at GP with a tag on his head, but he looks like he’s ready with that five furlong work at HST.
