Extreme Jet and No Real Drama, who won all three of the TC races between them, would go head-to-head in the PA Derby against many others that they had defeated along the way. They would take the top two spots, with the PRK winner, No Real Drama, having the upper hand on this day. Extreme Jet tried to make a run at him in the final moments, but No Real Drama was not going to relinquish the top spot. He is trained by Asgar, and it is the first PA Derby trophy for the trainer, as well as for the jockey, B Curtis. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:47.41, the second fastest in the history of the race. The stake record belongs to Blazing, set last year. Here’s a look at the race:

(½ Mile- :47.10)- Obi Wan was quick out of the gate for Mb Stables, but our eventual winner from Asgar, No Real Drama, is determined to take the top spot and has a neck in front of that one after half a mile. Without Warning stalks the pace for TwinTowersRacing while in the third lane, while Extreme Jet does similar on the rail for Mb Stables. The Delta Farms- trained Fawkes is fifth, two lengths from the lead while on the outside, while Maletto’s Kara France is nearby on the rail. John Henry’s Boss Spearman is the best of the rest, running ahead of Criminal Law (D J C Racing Stables) and Continental (Barcelona Farms).

(3/4 Mile- 1:11.00)- No Real Drama continues to look good down the backstretch and early into the turn, and Obi Wan cannot keep up with him. His lead is now a length and a half, over Without Warning now, as that one inherits the second spot as Obi Wan starts to tire out early. Extreme Jet and Fawkes are next, running evenly with one another and are each in good striking range. Next comes Kara France, who has not shown all that much yet. He’s a length ahead of Boss Spearman, who is still in front of Continental and Criminal Law.

(Top of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Around the turn and entering the stretch, No Real Drama is looking good with the lead, and the PRK winner will look to finish the job in the stretch. He would have a familiar right behind him, as the KYD and BEL winner, Extreme Jet, has had a good trip thus far on the rail, and now had nothing in his way to make his own bid for the win. Fawkes and Without Warning also had time to make their own runs, and they would look to do so while on the outside. Obi Wan has dropped to fifth, as Boss Spearman and Continental are each about to pass Kara France. Criminal Law continued to trail.

(Finish- 1:47.41)- With a furlong to go, it was looking like we would have no real drama all the way to the wire, as No Real Drama maintained his length advantage. In the end, Extreme Jet could only make minor progress on him as No Real Drama does indeed run well to the wire to pick up the big win. Extreme Jet continues his pattern of alternating wins and non-wins, something Mb Stables hopes continues for his probable next start in the BC Classic. On the far outside, Fawkes is third, with Continental’s late run getting him the fourth-place check. The remainder of the order will read Without Warning, Boss Spearman, Criminal Law, Kara France, and Obi Wan.

About The Winner- No Real Drama, trained by Asgar and ridden to victory by B Curtis, is a three-year-old gelding by So Sincere and is out of No Drama. He was bred in Louisiana by Asgar as a yearling, the only trainer for which he has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fifth in 11 starts, his fourth stake win and third graded win. His career earnings are now $2,228.40.
