Nownownow Stakes ($500.000 Purse)
MTH- For Two Year Olds
One Mile on the Turf
September 26, 2021
The time is now for the Nownownow Stakes, as for the first time, this turf race for two year olds will be taking place within the game. With a $500.000 purse being offered, we all hope that this race can become a long time fixture on the schedule. It is of course, very valuable in terms of the BC Juvenile Turf, a race that is now just a little more than a month away. There are six horses going to the gate, and if you wanted a $500.000 toss up, this is your race. Let’s meet the runners!
#1- The Great Beyond (Smokey Stover, ridden by Mario Gutierrez)- A winner of two out of three, and each of those wins came on the grass. Surprisingly, this makes him the only horse in the field that has won a turf race up to this point. Likes to go out of the lead and try to stay there, and it’s worked for him so far.
#2- Distinctive Edge (Nakamura Stables, ridden by J C Ferrer)- After not winning his first two races, he was dropped into a race at FP in August, which he did win. Now, he’s going to move up drastically in class while running on the turf for the first time. Works have gradually been getting better over the last two months.
#3- Wiggling Road (Jive Inc., ridden by D Moran)- Won on debut in April at the prestigious FON race track, and has taken on better company in each of his last two races. Most recently, he tried a $103.000 allowance at SAR, and placed fifth. That was his debut for Jive Inc., as the trainer picked him in private sales for $136.680. Goes long for the first time and it seems as though he will like it.
#4- Fedorov (Arindel, ridden by G Boulanger)- He’s namesake scored many goals, but the equine version has not been in the winners circle yet. The maiden has two second place showings, as well as a third place in the Grade 3 With Anticipation, which he only had 11 days of rest for. He’s had a little more time to rest for this one, but still his third race in a little over a month.
#5- Crazy Ivan (Acber Farms, ridden by Ru Gonzalez)- He won his debut race in April, but has done very little since then. His two starts that followed saw him finish well behind the leaders. He is now a gelding, and that is not the only thing that will be different for him, as he will race on the turf for the first time here. I like his turf works quite a bit, but needs to show me something on the track before I can pick him.
#6- Panic (Mb Stables, ridden by C J Hernandez)- This one has made the most starts of anyone here but has only won once in those five starts. That was also the only time he has hit the board. Most recently, he was a distant fourth in the Kittens Joy. This field doesn’t have a headliner, so he could get it done, but will not be my pick.
Prediction: 1-2-4-6
