12 The Empire Distaff
$250.000 3YO&Up F&M Foaled in NY 1 1/8thm Dirt 3yo 121lbs Older 124lbs
If it’s good for the boys, it’s even better for the girls… so we continue with a great weekend of NY-bred stakes action and look at the six-pack of sweeties set to go a mile and an eighth on the main track in The Empire Distaff. This is an evenly matched group of horses, and I will not be shocked by anything in this one… but waffles are for breakfast, so let’s give Sandrine the slight edge today. Her best race may have been that third in the Shuvee (GII)… that was a tough bunch and she held her own, to say the least. She’s been very tough when facing state-bred types, and that four length win last out, although on the grass, is daunting. I’ll go to the rail and put Statuette in the second spot. She won an Alw at CD at the same distance, and if she can repeat that race, I think she can be on the ticket… The Card likes Love Music, as well as my duo, and I can certainly see her, or any number of others, in the hunt down the lane.
