Seven Furlongs on the Dirt

The ELP Juvenile was an ungraded stake that ran for the 8th time, bringing together a group of talented two year olds. A few had tried graded competition, but for the most part we were looking at juveniles looking to use this race as a stepping stool for that competition. Oh My Gad has done nothing wrong in his career thus far, winning each of the races he had been in. After seven furlongs, he is now a perfect three-for-three. The winning trainer is Aer Stables, who takes the race for the first time in his career. S X Bridgmohan was aboard for his first ELP Juvenile win as well. The time of the victory was 1:22.89. Let’s take a look!

(1/4 Mile- :22.14)- A few of them look to get out to the lead early, and by the time we are two furlongs in, it would be Bannister leading his stablemate, Mic Drop, by half a length. Running a length behind the two entries from Fractious would be our eventual winner, Oh My Gad, for Aer Stables. On the rail, both Peachtree (Smokey Stover) and Komet (Estero Farms) ran together, and were also within two lengths of the leader. Culpable (Crocker Ggs) was another length back, and it’d be one more back to the two trailers running together, Ben Macdui (The Sidley Stud) and Back To Black (D J C Racing Stables).

(½ Mile- :44.93)- Bannister still leads the way, and finally moves over the to the rail just prior to the beginning of the run around the turn. His stablemate seemed unable to keep up this pace, though tried to hang on for now. Oh My Gad was in a great position to split these two horses in the turn, and looked to do exactly that. He still had a length and a half to make up on the leader. Peachtree and Komet were still looking to move forward on the inside, with the former looking a little better in doing so. Culpable, Back To Black, and Ben Macdui were at the back, with a little less then five lengths to make up.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Bannister remains in the lead, but at this point, he was clinging to it. Oh My Gad had methodically cut into his length and a half deficit, and was now right along side, half a length back. Bannister also felt the heat from both Peachtree and Komet who were now each a length behind him as well. Further back, Back To Black had gone five wide and hoped to be in the money lane for the stretch run. Culpable and Ben Macdui had also made up ground in the turn. Mic Drop, however, was done for the day.

(Finish- 1:22.89)- Oh My Gad battles his way to the front, but starts to drift to the outside late in the stretch, and the challengers of Peachtree and Komet were coming on pretty strongly. Fortunately, for Aer Stables, the wire came up just in time, and Oh My Gad holds on for the win by a neck over Peachtree. Komet takes third by a nose over a late bid by Culpable along the rail. Bannister wasn’t terrible in the stretch, but did drop out of money positions, placing fifth, slightly ahead of Ben Macdui. Back To Black lacked stretch response, and Mic Drop dropped way out of it.

About The Winner- Oh My Gad, trained by Aer Stables, and ridden to victory by S X Bridgmohan, is a two year old gelding by Brutal, and is out of Cobra Deth. He was bred as a yearling in New York by Aer Stables, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his third in three starts, and his first stake win. His career earnings are now $89.400.
