In a race full of horses looking to make the jump into graded company, it would be Ekli Stable’s Oh My Senor coming out on top, and he can thank an add change for it.   In his first five starts, Oh My Senor looked like a decent allowance horse, but probably not anything more then that, and after a race where he disappointed at GP, the trainer went back and made some adjustments.  The lasix and bute that he had in every race, including his debut, were gone.  And blinkers were added.  Is this horse an example for those people who preach add testing again after the first race? Perhaps.  At any rate, Oh My Senor responded at BTP with an allowance, and Ekli brought him here, hoping maybe for the soft field that he would get.   It is the first win in the stake for both trainer, and the jockey, P L Cotto Jr.  The time of the win was 1:09.20. Congratulations!  Here’s a deeper look.

1st- 6- Oh My Senor (2/1)- The eventual race winner from Ekli Stable broke alertly out of the gate, and cleared the field by about a length.  I Am The LionKing was the only one to get close to him as he set the opening quarter in :22.66.  As the backstretch run completed, he maintained his length advantage moving into the turn.  He would pour it on while in the turn, and start to pull away from I Am The LionKing, who looked to be struggling a little bit.  The opening half went in :45.29.  At the top of the stretch, he seemed to be in good shape.  Top Hero was making a bid back there, but was never going to get to him in time as long as he maintained his stride.  Oh My Senor would do that, and he earns the win here!  The time was 1:09.20.  Oh My Senor is a three old colt by El Gran Senor and out of Oh My Word.  He was bred in Florida by Ekli Stable as a second quarter two year old, and they have been together from the start.  Congratulations to the connections!

2nd- 2- Top Hero (5/1)-   The Tiratzo entry started near the back early, and gave himself an early three and a half lengths that he would need to make up on Oh My Senor.  R Alvarado Jr started to moved him forward towards the end of the turn, and at the top of the stretch, he would pounce on a lane that would split the fading Bold Viper, as well as Bold Phooey.  Looked good in the stretch, but would run out of time.

3rd- 5- I Am The LionKing (1/1)- The overwhelming favorite from Mb Stables had nothing wrong with his start, and would stalk Oh My Senor in the backstretch.  Had a wide lane around the turn, and maybe that could be used as a slight excuse.  Still, he did not look as comfortable in the turn as did Oh My Senor.  He recovered in the stretch, and ran well to pick up third, though many people expected far more.

4th- 3- Buffalo Phooey (6/1)- Started decently for Luz International, and seemed to be in a good position to strike in the turn, just off the lead in third.  Maintained his position around the turn, made never seemed to make any progress.   The final furlong was a disappointment.

5th- 1- Bold Viper (8/1)- The Night Rider Stables entry got off to an average start, fourth on the rail but also seemed to be in a good spot to make a move.  In the turn, however, he began to lose touch, and faded out of contention.

6th- 4- Charleys Bluff (93/1)- Our longest shot on the board from Ubetracing.com went right to the back early and would never be a factor.  Never made any type of move in the stretch.
