ON-bred Fillies Might Up In Muskoka

August 30, 2016

ON-bred two-year-old fillies take to the WO main track on Wednesday as part of Canadian Million Day and the Muskoka Stakes has attracted a small field of five but one that features three undefeated entrants and some high priced maiden winners. Some excellent fillies have won this race in the past including blue hen mare Beautiful Era, BC Juvenile Fillies winner P O W Panda and Grade I winner Something Else and as such, all the big owners are here with eyes on scooping up the big $200.000 purse.

1-Attitude Adjustment (Two-year-old bay filly / Owner-Emerald Racing Inc)

ON-bred maiden winner Attitude Adjustment jumps right into stakes company for her second career start and after sitting just off the early pace, she motored home to score at five-furlongs and should be well suited to this 6.5-furlong trip. The final time and speed rating were good and she has worked quite well in the interim; with an inside post, she should be able to sit a nice trip and close well for a big share.

Analysis-Maiden winner looks like a keeper

Fair Odds-3/1

2-Social Zero (Two-year-old bay filly / Owner-Australia Wide)

Claimed for $65.000 from her initial start at CD, Social Zero earned much of that back in a 53-1 upset over the SAR turf and is now asked to change tracks, surfaces and classes, which puts her behind others in this field. Speed ratings are on par with others but she might not be as fast as her rivals and if she sits too far back, she might be left with too much work to run down the early speed.

Analysis-Turf to dirt angle is usually good but might not be good enough

Fair Odds-10/1

3-Muffler (Two-year-old bay filly / Owner-Sccj Stables)

After just missing at PIM going shorter, Muffler found six-furlongs to her liking and came through with a big win over this course and now, will look to continue that momentum in her first foray into stakes company. Her workouts at MTH were great but she might have gone one too far with her breezing effort on August 24 and it could mean that stamina could be her downfall against more fresh and well-maintained rivals.

Analysis-Steady work tab could come into question
Fair Odds-5/1

4-Darling Smile (Two-year-old bay filly / Owner-Mb Stables)

Darling Smile used a blazing closing kick to score her maiden win at PRX but backed that up with a much closer N2L allowance win over a good WO main track and with that experience under her belt, has to be considered a top choice against ON-bred rivals once again. She owns the best speed rating in the field and fired a bullet workout at MTH in preparation, making her the logical choice to step forward and win her third in a row.

Analysis-Two big wins and a bullet work make her the choice

Fair Odds-2/1

5-Pivotal Lass (Two-year-old bay filly / Owner-Mo Mentum Farm)

You might not look at a MNR maiden race as much but Pivotal Lass won her debut in wire-to-wire fashion and after sitting just off the pace last time out, came through with a big claiming win at the tough SAR meeting, which could be sign of an increased effort in this spot. Although she might not be as fast as others, she certainly warrants at least a bit of a look on Saturday with an outside post that could give her a good run at the early lead and another front running effort.

Analysis-Might not be quick enough but did well at SAR
Fair Odds-6/1

Overall

Darling Smile was fast enough over a good track last time out to be made the favouite in the Muskoka but others will be challenging her up front and she will have to run back to that bullet workout to win this event. Attitude Adjustment debuted with style and scored at long odds, making her a shorter price here in her return, while Muffler might be over the top based on a bevy of workouts and will have to harness her energy to hit the top three.

Prediction

Win-Darling Smile (2/1)

Place-Attitude Adjustment (3/1)

Show-Muffler (5/1)

Triple T Racing 🙂
