Only a field of four for this years running of the Real Good Deal Staked here at Del Mar where the turf meets the surf. It is a very small field of four so not much to look over here but we will still go ahead and take a look at the field.

1. California Chrome (5-2-0-0 $37.880), trained by Aer Stables

The first runner in the field here is coming into this race off of a win in a first level allowance race at Louisiana Downs going a mile and seventy yards. He cuts back in distance in here so he will have to handle that. He has a chance in this small field.

2. Brief And Wonderous (8-2-2-0 $74.310), trained by John Henry

Well this horse will be making his first start for John Henry after he purchased him for three hundred dollars about three weeks ago. He ran second in the Carry Back at Gulfstream Park. I think he does like seven furlongs so he has a good chance in here.

3. Unfair Practices (10-2-2-1 $51.360), trained by Nakamura Stables
This next runner is also making a cut back in distance just like all three of the four in here. He did run second in the California Derby two races ago so he is a talented runner. If he can like the cut back in distance he will have a shot also.

4. Beaver Wars (9-1-3-0 $247.870), trained by Team 7 Illusions

And the final runner in the field right here is coming into this race off of a ninth place finish in the grade three Ohio Derby. He ran second in the Louisiana Derby earlier this year and also ran in the Kentucky Derby. The only problem is I think this is way too short for him.

Summary

A very small field here so just about anything can happen and I mean you can’t really count any of them out. I think at this distance of seven furlongs my top pick has to be Brief And Wonderous because he seems to want to sprint the most. Good luck to all.
