The GP Sprint Championship – Grade III
6 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $100.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.
1st Controlled Lion Our Athletes Bejarano R
Settled back which was the perfect move from the wide draw and this classy four year old that has always promised so much came through with a perfectly timed late run to score by a convincing three quarters of a length. The trainer had a great day and this horse who is two from two this season looks to have matured really well from three to four and will continue to be a contender in the top sprints this year.
2nd Rebel Force Wolfs Den Gaffalione T
Settled in midpack this one who has looked more at home over further in the past sprinted home well for second. I still think he is probably best over further but he is an adaptable type who always gives his best.
3rd Moon Landing Mb Stables Velazquez J R
Looked to stalk and did so following the leaders and looking likely as they hit the stretch. The BC Sprint runner up could not quicken when the closers rushed by and had to settle for third in what is probably going to be a much repeated scenario as these horses who are all very similar swap wins and places like a dose of the flu.
4th Socraties T Boy Racing Garcia Alan
Flew home late in what was another very solid effort. I can’t help thinking that this horse will break through in one of these races very soon.
