Street Sense – Grade III [KYD]
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $200.000 Open 2 Year Olds.
1st Panionios Fractious Beschizza A
The odds monkeys never cease to amaze me as we saw the only unbeaten horse in the race go off as the outsider of the group. The question mark about the gelding was always going to be the trip but he saw it out strongly in the slushy conditions and prevailed by a neck. Getting the perfect trip from his draw this was another gutsy performance by a two-year-old showing plenty of heart. When he won on debut in April, he was 15.1hh and now he is 15.2hh so I reckon there is more improvement to come and is definitely one to follow.
2nd Transformer Oquinn Farm Bejarano R
Proven in the wet he was sent out the long odds on favorite and very nearly made all. In the end he faltered inside the last 50 yards which was understandable in the conditions and was taken close home but his owner can be pretty happy with this performance from a progressive type who is still entire. He is another who hasn’t grown much debuting at 15.1hh and still standing at the height, so I would expect some improvement between two and three.
3rd Bubba Would Luz International Torres C A
He has been close up now in his third graded stakes in a row so is certainly knocking on the door. He didn’t get too far back which certainly helped but though he kept making ground to the line he could never get close enough to look a winning chance. This one has a future, but he needs to find a way to get into the races rather than whack away behind the winners, if he does that then watch out.
4th Smooth Criminal Riggins Racing Leparoux J R
Got way too far back either through instructions, running style or a race engine decision and actually did pretty well to end up fourth. There is clearly something there, but the trainer will need to change his mind set to find success at this level.
