Paris Broadway Puts on Masterful Performance in FG Oaks

FG Oaks (Grade 2) (KYO)- $400.000 Purse
FG- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
March 26, 2022

The first 100-point race for the KYO is in the books, and a good season for Arindel in this division would get even better as his filly, Paris Broadway, making just her second start for the trainer and after he purchased her, stalked the pace and picked up the win. She is now a perfect 2-for-2 since the sale, and now sits atop the KYO leaderboard. For the moment, Arindel has three within the ten! He, Smokey Stover, and Mb Stables all have at least three within the top fourteen spots right now. It is the first win in the race for Arindel and jockey J R Velazquez. Congratulations go out to them! The winning race time was 1:42.08, let’s take a look!

(1/4 Mile- :23.62)- Venezia, our pick to win from D J C Racing Stables, breaks well from the rail, and doing so just as well from the other side of the starting gate would be Biggle, for Mb Stables. These two would run side by side around the opening turn, and it would be Biggle with a neck in front, officially, at this juncture. After two lengths, a group of three stalkers run behind them, and this includes the eventual race winner, Arindel’s Paris Broadway. She holds the rail here while The Sidley Stud’s Ginger Lucy is beside her and Lotta Carnival is in the third lane for Oval Express Farms. Directors Chair (Nakamura Stables) and Moment Too Dream (Alydar Stables) run in the middle of the field, then it’s Lassitude (TwinTowersRacing) and Main Flirt (Mb Stables). Verve (Mb Stables), Zin (Rock Creek), and Gold Chatter (Mwn Racing) are the trailers.

(½ Mile- :47.19)- Down the backstretch, Biggle leads Venezia by about half a length for most of the way, but as they get to the turn, they are again side by side. Paris Broadway did not let them out of her sight, and may have gained on them just a little bit before getting to the turn. What she has certainly done is pull away from both Ginger Lucy and Lotta Carnival, the two that had been running with her previously. Meanwhile, Moment Too Dream would show a lot more interest in the backstretch and moved into fifth. Directors Chair opted to not advance along with her, and still ran near the back with Main Flirt, Verve, and Lassitude.

(Top Of Stretch, 2F To Go)- Venezia would handle the turn well, and pull away from Biggle and open up by a length as they entered the stretch. Biggle tried to hang around but was looking leg weary at this point. Paris Broadway continued her good trip while riding the rail in the turn and was just about to complete the pass for second into the stretch. Lotta Carnival was in good stride, but had to handle the turn four wide. Ginger Lucy still ran in the middle of the field, and if it looked like Moment Too Dream was going to make a run earlier, that was not panning out. Main Flirt, Verve, and Directors Chair were next, all having around five lengths to make up.

(Finish- 1:42.08)- Venezia seemed to be showing a lot of fight early on in the stretch, but Paris Broadway would win this battle, pulling even with a furlong to go, and making the pass at that time. New challengers were emerging from behind with Main Flirt and Lotta Carnival trying to catch up as quick as they could. Directors Chair was advancing as well, but had to make up a length on those two, as well. Approaching the wire, Paris Broadway maintained her stride, keeping her ahead of the closers, and while Main Flirt got very close late, it would be Paris Broadway getting the win by around a neck. Directors Chair was explosive late to be third, sending Venezia to fourth. Lotta Carnival stalled in the stretch, but would finish ahead of Lassitude, Ginger Lucy, Verve, Biggle, Moment Too Dream, Zin, and Gold Chatter.

About The Winner- Paris Broadway, trained by Arindel and ridden to victory by J R Velazquez, is a three year old filly by French Control and is out of Broadway Shadows. She was bred in Ontario by Glorify Stables as a yearling, and was acquired by Arindel for $185.000 in private sales in late January. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in eight starts, her third stake win, and second graded win. Her career earnings are now $564.800.
