Penalty Shot Proves a Class Above Them in Ruby Stakes

Ruby Stakes – Grade III [KYD]
1 1/8 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $250.000 Open 3 Year Olds.

1st Penalty Shot           Maxmillion Farm          Court J K

I have said it a few times today and this race again looked a lot like the old race engine. I though Penalty Shot was the best horse in the race but as he broke into last from a wide gate i feared for him under the new race engine pattern. However he made stealthy ground coming wide into the stretch and continued hos run to the line coming home a length clear.
The gelding operation he had in February certainly seems to have done the job as he ran very well from a bad gate in the TAM Derby and now has put himself in the KYD picture. It is good to see a son of Taniwha doing well and it is quite a coincidence that the sire seemed to get wide draws more than most as well.

2nd Cash Me Outside            Gdp Inc             Gonzalez Ru

Raced on the speed and kept on pretty well but i think he finds this trip on the outside of his ability at the moment especially at this level. He kept on though and ran far better than his previous form so this is a good step forward.

3rd Cleon Clone              Crocker Ggs               Kimura K

Kept on well after getting back to take a decent third. It is still a long road for him to make the KYD but this is a step in the right direction for the home bred.

4th Live To Fight             Arindel                 Hernandez R M

The stable mates all finished locked together with this one the first of them home. Not a bad effort but i can’t see him making the KYD.
