The field was small, the grass was wet, and the tote-board was lit up like a Christmas tree!  So is the story for the 2015 Penny Memorial Hcp (GIII) run on a soggy turf course, here at PRX.  When they went by the wire, Rip Snortin set them all on their ears, winning by a length at 67/1 odds.

The small field of three got away from the gate with post time favorite Hope For Five away well, Fashion Lane to her outside and Rip Snortin under a hold at the hedge.

Out of the chute, by the stands the first time by and now into the clubhouse turn, six furlongs to run, with Hope For Five in front by a length and a half.  Fashion Lane giving chase and Rip Snortin still in hand and three lengths off of the pace.

Making their way down the back side and a half mile left to run, Hope For Five was under pressure as Fashion Lane was now nose and nose with her.  Rip Snortin continued to skim the rail and sit behind that duel.

Swing around the turn and to the top of the lane, moving past the 3/16th’s pole, this race had changed… and fast!  Hope For Five put the cue in the rack and drifted back to last as now Fashion Lane was a neck in front of Rip Snortin.

Deep stretch and down to the finish, Fashion Line was trying to dig in, but as they went by the furlong marker, this was an upset in the making.  Rip Snortin cruised right on by and widened late to go under the wire in front by a length.  Fashion Line was a clear second, with Hope For Five staggering home last, ten lengths behind second.

Rip Snortin is a 3yo bay filly by Rock Em – Laffin Crown, by King Of Nebraska, and she was bred in CA by Downwind Stables.  Purchased privately by Aer Stables for $110.000, she now shows three wins from ten lifetime stars and earnings of $220.320.
