The Swale Stakes- Grade III
GP Race 8 7F Dirt
Purse $200.000 For
Three Year Olds
1 Pretty Ferro, trained by Estero Farms
Broke well and took up position about 2 lengths off the lead while staying just off the rail. Backed up slightly moving down the backstretch as Silver Panther moved up on the outside and passed him while Trojan Defense set a rather pedestrian pace. Started to move as they entered the stretch but was unable to find a hole. As Silver Panther began to drift out was able to move through and take the lead at the eighth pole and maintain a small advantage to the wire.
2 One Dance, trained by Gdp, Inc
Raced next to last about 4 lengths from the lead down the backstretch. Moved four wide as they entered the turn and lost another couple of lengths. Began to accelerate as they started to leave the turn and made what looked to be a winning move down the middle of the track. Came up just a ¼ length short in a very nice effort with a wide trip.
3 Silver Panther, trained by Axeman
Raced 4 wide for the first quarter mile. Moved up in order to save ground as they got to the turn and settled in right behind the leader. Briefly took the lead in deep stretch but was unable to hold off the top two.
4 Rootin Tootin, trained by TwinTowersRacing
Trailed the field for the first half mile and raced five wide the whole trip. Made a belated rally and was able to pass tired horses to get fourth.
Summary
Pretty Ferro was able to extend his win streak to three but not without some nervous moments as he encountered traffic. His trainer feels he has earned a shot in a Derby prep and will be looking for a good spot. One Dance had nothing to be ashamed of as the wide trip certainly cost him at least the margin of victory. Silver Panther also ran a game race after having to be used early to gain position and it will be interesting to see where he goes next. Both of Mb’s entries had some traffic issues but it does look like the campaign has taken a toll on Edge Of Chai.
