Queenston Stakes- $125.000 Purse
WO- For Three Year Olds Foaled In Canada
Seven Furlongs on the Dirt
May 19, 2019
On a quiet Sunday, most of the virtual racing world is still recovering from the excitement of the PRK. There was some stake racing, though, and up north, four three year olds went at it in the Queenston Stakes. The race itself really was not much more then allowance, based on where the runners had been leading into it, but can be all about where they may go from here. Private Cool Cat, a horse that has been passed around between trainers like crazy, made his debut for Onlineracingclub.com and would win his debut for the trainer. Perhaps, now with stable ownership possible, he can fulfill his potential. It is the first win in the stake for both the trainer, and the jockey, J Lermyte. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:22.08. Here’s a quick look.
(1/4 Mile- :23.05)- Space Commander jumps out to the quick lead for Joshua Stables, and soon opens up by two lengths. After the gap, we see both John Pussycat, from High Voltage, and Cool Fonzy, out of Maxmillion Farm running side by side. Three lengths further back, we have our eventual winner, Onlineracingclub.com’s Private Cool Cat, as he has no interest in being anywhere near his rivals in the early going.
(½ Mile- :46.14)- The second quarter of the race is rather uneventful, as there is little change in anything that has gone on. Space Commander runs at a similar pace, as does everyone else. John Pussycat and Cool Fonzy are still side by side, and still two and a half lengths from the lead. Private Cool Cat had not made any advance as of yet, and still was three lengths behind those two, and nearly six lengths behind the frontrunner.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Out in front, it’s still Space Commander showing thee way and he has had a pretty easy going of it thus far. Therefore, you had to like the position he was in as he still held that two and a half length lead. Neither John Pussycat nor Cool Fonzy had put a move on him yet. That was not true for Private Cool Cat, however, as handled the turn well, and J Lermyte positioned him to the outside of the two runners for second. His gap to the lead had now been cut from six to four. Would he have a enough time was the only question.
(Finish- 1:22.08)- With a furlong to go, I would have suspected that Space Commander was going to hold on to the win as long as he maintained his stride, but once they moved past this point, he lost just enough steam. Therefore, Private Cool Cat’s job became a little less daunting in making up the distance. At the wire, and not one stride too soon, he barely got up in time to pull off the win over Space Commander. John Pussycat beat Cool Fonzy for third, as they seemed to think each other was the only other horse in the race.
About The Winner- Private Cool Cat, trained by Onlineracingclub.com, and ridden to victory by J Lermyte, is a three year old colt by One Cool Cat, and is out of the late Private Mistake. He was bred in Ontario by LionKing Stables as a second quarter two year old, and acquired by Onlineracingclub.com, via Mb Stables, in a $40.000 claimer. The win is his third in six starts and his first stake win. His career earnings are now $143.200.
