The PRK (Grade 1)- $2,000.000 Purse
PRK- For Three Year Olds
One Mile and Three Sixteenths on the Dirt
May 17, 2025
It was time for the PRK, and race fans would make KYD winner Extreme Jet a heavy favorite in the Pick ‘em. He’d be one of seven horses in the race that also ran two weeks ago, so there would be questions about how they would handle the other seven in the field that had more rest. One of the freshest horses in the field was Asgar’s No Real Drama, who had not run since finishing sixth in the Ruby Stakes towards the end of the March. No Real Drama scored 20 KYD points, placing him 43rd on the leaderboard, but was seemingly pointed to the PRK then instead of taking another shot at a prep in KYD. Other than in the Ruby, which was not necessarily a terrible race for him, either, No Real Drama had always hit the board and won three times, including the Davis Stakes. Still, this is a horse that did not have a lot of name recognition outside of his own barn, and he would go off as a 28/1 longshot. Running near the front as he typically will, this gelding would outrun everyone in the stretch, going on to pull off the upset and win the PRK! No Real Drama is trained by Asgar, and it’s the first win in a TC race for him. Congratulations on the massive accomplishment! Ru Silvera was aboard for his first win in the race, congrats to him as well. The time of the win was 1:54.81, which is among the better such times. Let’s take a look at it:
(½ Mile- :47.14)- From the outside, Brooklyn Bash breaks alertly for Wood Duck Stables, and toward the inside, the Williams9- trained Decal is also a quick starter, and these two will show the way around the opening turn. Running in the third position entering the backstretch, and a length behind the frontrunners is where have our eventual winner from Asgar, No Real Drama. He runs in the second lane, and to his outside is the one that most people are keeping a close eye on, the KYD champion Extreme Jet, for Mb Stables. To his outside is the other Asgar runner, Losing Hazard, with Legalise running evenly with him for D J C Racing Stables on the rail. Next up, we have Tropical Surge (Red Fox Farms) running in the middle of the field on the far outside, a length ahead of Fawkes (Delta Farms), with Clever (D J C Racing Stables) and Red Font (Wood Duck Stables), the horses that end up finishing second and third, running five lengths from the front. Adrenaline (Nakamura Stables) and Boss Spearman (Wood Duck Stables) are next in line, and at the back are Ref You Def (Night Rider Stables) and Point Given (Alydar Stables).
(3/4 Mile- 1:11.48)- Down the backstretch and moving into the turn, Brooklyn Bash and Decal are still the leaders, but pretty soon it looked like they would have challengers. At the top of the turn, both No Real Drama and Extreme Jet moved over so they could potentially pass the top two while running three and four wide. They still had a length to make up, and for those hoping for a TC winner, their eyes were likely on Extreme Jet more than No Real Drama right here. Leagalize and Losing Hazard, who had been running near them, did not make a similar move, and Tropical Surge continued to be caught out wide. Clever, Fawkes, and Red Font ran in the middle of the pack but had some room to make a move in the turn if they desired to. Adrenaline and Boss Spearman were a length behind them and certainly not out of it. Further back, Ref You Def and Point Given were still conceding a lot of ground.
(Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- It would be in the turn where No More Drama won this race, not wasting any time pulling up to join the top two. Decal would bow out fairly quickly at this point, but Brooklyn Bash hung in there a little longer, but none of that would matter as No More Drama was determined to take the lead entering the stretch. He would do so, but what about Extreme Jet, the horse that also began to look good in the turn. Perhaps, the short turnaround time for that played a part here, but Extreme Jet did not have the same push and was third, now a length and a half behind No Real Drama. Now, the question for Asgar would be who else would take a run at him from further behind. Clever, Red Font, and Fawkes all had methodically been advancing during the turn, and all were worth paying attention to at this point. Meanwhile, Legalise was losing ground, and Adrenaline was lacking response. Boss Spearman was showing more interest but had a lot of ground to cover. Losing Hazard, Tropical Surge, Ref You Def and Point Given would likely need a miracle now.
(Finish- 1:54.81)- Well, there would be no real drama in the stretch, as No Real Drama was clear by a length and only seemed to be pulling away further. Extreme Jet was not going to get it done today, and even though the likes of Red Font and Clever were running well, it was not quickly enough to threaten the leader. This day would belong to No Real Drama, as he would go on to win by a length to capture the second leg of the Triple Crown! Clever is second, by half a length over a photo for show that sees Red Font beating Fawkes with Extreme Jet close by. Boss Spearman’s run gets him sixth, over stablemate Brooklyn Bash, as well as Point Given. Rounding it out are Adrenaline, Ref You Def, Legalise, Decal, Tropical Surge, and Losing Hazard.
About The Winner- No Real Drama, trained by Asgar and ridden to victory by Ru Silvera, is a three-year-old gelding by So Sincere and is out of No Drama. He was bred in Louisiana as a yearling, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fourth in eight starts, his third stake win and second graded win. His career earnings are now $1,468.400.
