Estero Farms and Proud Eights must have been tired of close finishes as the five year old mare made a mockery of The Gamely Stakes (GI) winning by three comfortable lengths… and it looked like more than that to me.  She got the mile and an eighth in 1:45.60 on a turf course labeled firm.   Hollywood Chef closed well but really wasn’t a threat to the winner taking the second spot by a neck over pace-setter Giveaway with post time favorite Fangs Of the Storm fourth. 

The seven ladies loaded up quickly and were away in good order with Fangs Of The Storm and Giveaway off quickly, Pirate Petranella towards the outside of that pair, then back down to the rail for Proud Eights.  Holloywood Chef was next, Goblin Judge and Gold Futures. 

Around the clubhouse turn and onto the back stretch with five furlongs to run, Giveaway along the rail with a nose in front of Fangs Of The Storm, Pirate Petranella three wide with them, then a gap to Proud Eights skimming the rail, back outside for Hollywood Chef,  Goblin Judge between horses and Gold Futures still the back marker.

They made their way down the backside and into the far turn with five sixteenths to run, Giveaway by a neck, Fangs Of The Storm not letting up, Proud Eights now moving up and looking to split that duo, Pirate Petranella a length back and four wide, Hollywood Chef on her outside flank, Gold Futures and Goblin Judge was now the trailer.

Into the lane and Proud Eights split horse and drew off at her leisure.. opening up through the lane and going under the wire by day-light.  Hollywood Chef closed down the center of the course, securing the second spot, Giveaway hanging on for the third spot, then Fangs Of The Storm in fourth.  Gold Futures was fifth, Pirate Petranella sixth and Goblin Judge closed this one out. 

Proud Eights is a 5yo chestnut mare by Eight Eights – Proud To Watch, by Proud Chai, and she was bred in Ky by First Class Stable.  Acquired prior to her racing career via Private Purchase for $35.000, this was her sixth win from twenty-one starts and she now has $1,195.400 in earnings.

Proud Eights broke in hand, just in behind the pace, moved up into the lane splitting rivals, drew off as much the best.  Hollywood Chef rated back, some late action while no threat to the winner. Giveaway broke well, up to lead to the top of the lane, could not go on with the winner, out-finished for the place.  Fangs Of The Storm broke well, disputed the pace to the lane, tired.  Gold Futures rated back, no threat.  Pirate Petranella showed speed to the far turn, tired.  Goblin Judge was outrun.
