PRX Dirt Mile Attracts a Small but Close-Knit Field

PRX Dirt Mile
PRX Race #12 1m Dirt Stake
Purse $300.000 For Three Year Olds And Upward.

Looking at the field for this race there will be a few stables kicking themselves that they didn’t consider this $300.000, no penalty race. No runner from Mb, Maxmillion, Riggins or The Sidley Stud, so this race gives an opportunity for a nice pay day to a few of our other top stables. This is how they line up:

1 Classic Look Nakamura Stables Bejarano R 122 —

The first of the five runners is Classic Look a four-year-old with plenty of miles on the clock. He has run into some nice form recently winning a little stakes race over this trip and being close up in a couple of better races including the Seagram last time but has yet to really make heads turn. He is an honest, consistent sort who will be right in this but whether he has the X factor to beat a few others who may be a little more progressive remains to be seen.

2 Speter Sheffler Stables Velazquez J R 122 —

The seven-year-old has looked a bit past his best this year but his deep running closing style has definitely been affected by this new race engine, and a small field here may just give him the chance he needs to display his undoubted class. His works are still sharp so if they don’t run him off his feet too much early, he could make great use of this perfect draw and run them down late.

3 Lotus Glorify Stables Achard A 122 —

Recently claimed after winning his fourth race in a row, this rapidly improving four-year-old may just be the answer in this tight looking race. His works are sharp, and his form has definitely had the look of a horse running up its improvement curve which is so often the answer when looking at races like these.

4 Turning Point TwinTowersRacing Gaffalione T 118 —

The only three-year-old in the race, he should be respected despite the mountain that these threes are climbing these days to beat the olders. Fourth in the TAM Derby, The Amsterdam and the Jerkens Memorial he tackles older horses for the first time but has looked pretty classy in his own age group. On paper the four pounds may be enough to see him win but in reality, he will have to improve a little to beat the best of these.

5 Mamba D J C Racing Stables Lopez P 122 —

The five-year-old has been sprinting recently but has a decent record over longer trips and shouldn’t be written off from the wide draw. He very nearly won the Triple Bend over seven furlongs, and a repeat would put him in with a winning chance.

SUMMARY

Whether there are 14 runners or 5 it seems to make very little difference as to how similar the chances are of all the runners. It shouldn’t be hard to find the winner here, but it is with all five staking a claim. I have an itch for Mamba from the outside who may get some outside speed push and lead all the way. Of the others take your pick because any of them could win or be second.
