Well i was very pleased for the owner when this one held on for a neck win today after a difficult season of highs and too many lows. The horse that had promised so much early in the year and that had run his best races in defeat finally got a win at the tenth time of asking in 2022. It took of course a complete turnaround in race tactics and running style as has become the ‘hack’ this year of getting the instructions right rather than worrying how your horse runs best. It was to be the first time in his life that this horse jumped to the lead after the first quarter, whether that was a quirk of race engine fate or a hail mary instruction we probably wont know but what it did was give this horse the chance and he took it with both hands.

Whilst the winner had settled on one extreme of the game, this one was relying on the other hack of switching surfaces and it nearly paid off. He was taking ground off the winner all the way to the line but needed another 100 yards to assert and the post came too soon. A super consistent sort his improvement curve has been pretty flat this year and one feels he may be the type that see’s a climb when he turns four.

Another steady effort he ran up to his form and did well but is another who just needs to find some upward motion in his improvement curve

4th The Chieftain Glorify Stables Crawford J

Ran a bit of a tactical non race, never really settling on the faster early pace and just whacking away with no chance of the win. There is plenty of improvement in him though and we can forgive him this effort because of his lack of miles on the clock.
