The Schuylerville (Grade 3)- $175.000 Purse
SAR- For Fillies Two Year Old
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
July 13, 2023
Just eight days ago, on the fifth of July, Fractious and Our Athletes executed a private sales transaction that would see Fractious get the talented filly Purple Charger in exchange for $550.000. Such a purchase can be high risk, high reward when talking about two year old fillies in July, but for the moment it certainly looks like Fractious got himself a great one. Purple Charger would be the post time favorite for the running of the Schuylerville, and she was also our pick to win. After six furlongs, she would not leave any of her supporters disappointed as she gets a convincing win over a dirt surface only listed as good. It’s the first win in the race for both the trainer, and for jockey M Franco. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:10.82, which unfortunately cannot be compared to previous winning times due to not being on a fast track. Let’s take a look at how it happened!
(1/4 Mile- :22.57)- General Slot goes to the lead from the gate for Jive Inc, and she will lead by about a length over a group of three stalkers. I Made A Decision, out of new trainer Jireh is second on the rail, with Avenue Z’s Sister Of The Moon running between horses and Tockyocky’s Violate on the outside. Next up is Rubimaulu, and the filly from Arindel tucks in right behind I Made A Decision. Creepy Mystery and Silver Springs, respectively for Arkansas Elite and South Shore Stables run in the middle of the pack. Behind them, we have our eventual winner, Purple Charger, as the Fractious- trained filly knows what to do when starting from the outside already and trails by four lengths. Piccadelly (Hippyheart) is nearby, then Improvised Sin (Asgar) and Joanee Rose (D J C Racing Stables). Trailing is Midway Miss (Alydar Stables).
(1/2 Mile- :46.37, Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- At the top of the turn, I Made A Decision didn’t wait to decide to make her run for the lead and takes over the top spot. While in the turn, she will only extend the lead and enters the stretch looking very good with a clear length lead. Of the other front runners, the only one able to stay with her is Violate. Sister Of The Moon runs a couple lengths from the lead while Rubimaulu runs to her inside. General Slot has fallen back quickly, and is now about to be passed by both Creepy Mystery and Silver Springs as well. As this was going on, Purple Charger had her own decision to make, and that would be to swing out four wide and look to charge to the front from here. Piccadelly was looking like a contender, too, but chose to take the inside lane. Joanee Rose, Improvised Sin, and Midway Miss all had a lot of work to do if they wanted to get to the front.
(Finish- 1:10.82)- Moving into the stretch, I Made A Decision was still full of run and was only pulling away from the likes of Violate and Rubimaulu. Unfortuantely for Jireh, Purple Charger was lurking from the back, and with her outside run she was making up a lot of ground very quickly. With a furlong to go, she still had about two lengths to make up, so she would have to dig down to find a little more of she was going to pull this off. In the final moments of the race, Purple Charger was clearly the best horse in the field, making it look like $550.000 very well spent. Not only would she catch I Made A Decision, but would easily pull away and essentially win this race by two lengths. I Made A Decision holds on for second over a hard charging Piccadelly. That one just started running too late, as if she had done so a little earlier, it would have been interesting to see her go at Purple Charger. Rubimaulu had a steady but unspectacular run, finishing fourth, narrowly over Violate. The rest of the field was two and a half lengths from these top five. Silver Springs is sixth, ahead of Joanee Rose, Improvised Sin, Creepy Mystery, Midway Miss, and Sister Of The Moon. Wait, one more! General Slot did finish eventually as well.
About The Winner- Purple Charger, trained by Fractious and ridden to victory by M Franco, is a two year old filly by Rumble and is out of Dodge Challenger. She was bred in Kentucky by Our Athletes as a first quarter two year old, and was sold to Fractious for $550.000 on the fifth of this month. Congratulations to the connections! Purple Charger is now a perfect 3-for-3, with two stake wins and one graded win. Her career earnings are already $222.000.
