The PID Masters Stakes – Grade II
6 1/2 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $300.000 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Racing Tipster Fractious Velazquez J R
I wasn’t overly keen on the three-year-old’s chances in this race with just the 3Lbs weight for age advantage, but this very progressive filly got the job done with a head win. I guess the question is, was this a sign that the three-year-olds are beginning their rise to domination of the older horses or was it just a very good ride on a very good horse. She was good enough to finish second in the grade one Test last time in only her sixth career start so she could just be a freakishly good three-year-old and we will go with that rather than the fact that she got a great rails run and snatched a winning break as the runner up had to swing impossibly wide to get a run. The winner now of five from seven this was another great win for Fractious who seems to still be winning big races despite a recent stable reduction.
2nd Adrift At Sea Threshold Lezcano J
This very consistent six-year-old ran her heart out as usual but got no favors from the race engine again as she had to come round the whole field to make her run. She will go to the BC in the hope that she gets a clearer run at them.
3rd Grandest Lady La Canada Racehorses Bridgmohan S X
Ran well at big odds and safely put her disappointing effort in the Ballerina behind her with a solid third placing. She coped with the wide draw well keeping close enough to give herself a chance early and staying on nicely and like the runner up is a solid stakes type who generally runs consistently.
4th Chica Lugo Mb Stables Lopez P
Pushed up on the speed today and in the end used up much of her finish in that fast first quarter. There is no doubt she has ability, but she doesn’t seem the easiest to place in these type of races as she hasn’t really settled on her best trip yet.
