1 Precise Performance Mb Stables Beschizza A
This wouldnt have been one of the top hopes for the KYO as a juvenile from this stable but the way things are developing she may turn out to be the best one. The winner in two stakes races on the statebred cicuit she performed fairly in the Chandelier but didnt become a top KYO hope until she ran on the game winner of the Santa Ynez at the start of this year. That win came from a tough draw but she is much better drawn today and should get a much more economical trip.
2 Charming You D J C Racing Stables Velazquez J R
She looked pretty capable last year after being claimed by her current owner winning a stakes race before going on to finish a fine second in the grade two Demoiselle. Whilst the class difference doesnt make much difference at HRP i couldnt help but be a bit disappointed by her seasonal debut in an overnight at GP and although i am sure she is better than that i will need to see her today to really be convinced she is up to this.
3 Anger Issues High Voltage Ortiz I Jr
Claimed from the free track when winning her debut run out of grade she was taken straight to a stakes pay race where she finished a strong second next up. She got too far back from a wide draw in her last start but made up ground for fourth and i have a feeling she is a lot better than the form on the board so far. She may be a dark filly whose odds may be appealing.
4 Lordess Our Athletes Geroux F
Two wins from two starts in the mud may suggest this one is a wet tracker but she showed enough when fourth in the Demoiselle on a dry track to suggest she is more than that. Her works are only fair and she still has to prove herself at this level but a good draw and solid form put her right in the mix.
5 Relax Mb Stables Bejarano R
The horse of the year and a record of seven from seven including 4 grade ones should make this filly almost unbeatable but we all know thats nota statement you can make at HRP. On paper she should win this with ease and go on to another full and successful season and there’s nothing to suggest that wont happen. Her odds will be cramped and it would great to see her make it 8 from 8 but we will have to wait and see whether she has trained on enough and then talk superlatives after this race.
6 Illustrious Command Chili King Stables Leparoux J R
Looks a bit of a hit and hope on paper but its that time of year that those borderline cases get their chance to hit the big time. A game maiden winner she has never been beyond seven furlongs and its hard to see her bothering the horse of the year.
7 How Trait Gdp Inc Bridgmohan S X
Another that may be flying a little under the radar she ran some nice races as a juvenile winning the grade two Golden Rod after two good efforts in grade one company. She was a gutsy winner on seasonal debut in lesser company and that effort should’ve sharpened her up nicely for this. She gets her stakes winning jockey back today and should be in the top three at the end.
8 Winegum Wishes Crocker Ggs Hernandez R M
Consistent in lesser company she gets a chance to break through today but gets a tough field to try in. She has certainly done enough but has a difficult draw. If she can get any sort of position anywhere near the rail she may manage to surprise a few but its hard to see her winning.
9 Risen Day Mb Stables Gaffalione T
Completes the usual three runners in this sort of race for Mb Stables and its fairly surprising that they have pitted this one against the best in their stable. Bought from Fractious for just ten dollars she wasnt far behind the stable star in the BC Juvenile Fillies and then took the Demoiselle in clear cut fashion before the season ended. She could easily complete a 1,2,3 for the stable but this difficult draw wont make it easy.
10 Mercy Smokey Stover Desormeaux K J
She took four goes to break her maiden and hasnt raced since that breakthrough win but dont let that fact put you off her chances. A couple of sub 1.37 works suggest she is far more than a one race winner but today may not be the today as she faces a nasty draw. If you are looking for one from left field to take the unbeaten record of Relax then this may be the sort of filly to do it.
12 Rebel Genie Tiratzo Sanchez M J
Another with only four lifetime starts she has managed the two wins but struggled in the Starlet in between suggesting she may need a few more runs to make her mark at this level. The draw certainly makes it even tougher but a good run today may see her getting another chance down the line.
SUMMARY
Well the star of last season in Relax makes her seasonal debut here and to be honest it would be a huge shock to see her beaten. If there’s going to be a shock result then it may be Mercy or How Trait that does it but with everything working in her favor Realx should get the job done.
