Race #8 17:55 Eight Belles – Grade II
7 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $200.000 Filly 3 Year Olds.
1st Queen Of Broadway, trained by Riggins Racing
Now a winner of four from five and unbeaten on dirt this filly broke into the
big time today with her first outing in a black type race. In a good midpack position
early on she worked her way to the front into the stretch and battled on gamely
for a quarter length win. She really could be anything and proved once again that
the winners of overnights can step straight into graded class if they are good enough.
Its great to see her trainer who has been quite recently break back with a really nice
filly who is sure to be around for a long while yet.
2nd City Bus, trained by Tiratzo
Close to the eventual winner throughout she close up with a furlong to run and whilst
she battled gamely she was no match in the end. There is no doubt she is a very good sort
and we can look forward to many more clashes between the first two in the big sprints to
come this year.
3rd Jewel In The Sand, trained by Our Athletes
Beaten less than a length in the end she just got outbattled in the last furlong but ran a
very nice race. Close up from the wide gate she ran very well after being so wide and i
suspect she may be a better filly with an inside gate.
4th Laffin Diplomat, trained by D J C Racing Stables
Stalked the lead but was one paced down the stretch. Only beaten a length she has a bright future
at this level.
5th Known To Profit
Ran on from further back to be fifth only beaten a length.
6th Stump The Skeleton
Got well behind in the early stages and ran on strongly to e
beaten just two lengths.
7th You Gotta Believe
Trailed the field and ran on to be seventh
8th Downtheredcarpet
Another that got back and ran on late was only beaten three lengths.
9th Drill
Never really got into things.
10th Bus Har Tubbles
Never a factor
11th Primera Fajita
Faded after being close enough early on.
12th Disney Music
Led early on but faded into last. The ridiculous thing is that as usual
last means next to nothing as she was only five lengths off the winner.
