7 BEL Jockey Club Oaks
$700.000 3yoF 1 3/8m Turf 122lbs
The tote-board got lit up a bit in the Jockey Club Oaks as RNP Stables’ Shining Moments got back to the winning ways, taking the big purse by the slimmest of margins in a final time of 2:12.19 for the mile and three eights inner turf stakes. The winner was dismissed at 28-to-1 odds and led when it counted most, nailing pace setter Build Battle on the wire. The Mb Stables trained runner-up did all of the heavy lifting and was literally caught in the final strides. Fangs Of The Storm was in the mix as well, but settled for the third spot, a neck back of the top two, with post-time favorite (and my top choice) Ice Crystal getting the minor money.
Shining Moment is a 3yo chestnut fully by Creepy Time – Outfinished, by Wreaking Havoc, and she was bred here in NY by her owner, RNP Stables. This was her sixth win from twelve starts, four of those wins coming this season, and she now has earnings of $969.600. After a duo of mid-pack finishes, it’s great to see this one get back on-track and she should be seen on BC Day, out at DMR. Congrats to the connections!

Shining Moment broke mid-pack securing an inside position, continued to save ground through the turn and into the lane, closed fast down the rail, moved to 2p, up in the final stride. Build Battle sharp break, set the pace to the wire, caught in the last jump. Fangs Of The Storm sat just behind the early pace, lost some ground down the backside while racing wide, 5p for the drive, good late effort. Ice Crystal broke in hand, rated off of the pace, began to move forward into the far turn, drifted 6p for the drive, no excuse. Into The Darkness broke alertly, forwardly placed to the furlong marker, flattened out late. Table For One rated, some late effort while no factor. Shes One Of A Kind just behind the pace, 3p for the drive, nothing left. Steppin Out was not a factor. Heels Up was outrun. Taco Impact showed little.
