The Forego – Grade I
7 furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $500.000 Four-Year-Olds And Up. At SAR
1st Capiche Robeth 25.80-1
Well, idiots unite! In my preview, I spent half my time building up a case as to why I shouldn’t dismiss this horse and then dismissed him. Ha! I also mentioned my logic in that I am an idiot. I think all of us collectively deserve a slap on the wrist for those odds because he gave plenty of warning with that sharp win coming up to this after the three relentless charges before that that left this win just sitting on his nose.
2nd Edward The Good Mb Stables *2.70-1
Edward The Good struggled with the six furlongs of DMR’s Crosby Stakes and just never got going last out leaving him just starting at sixth while everyone else was done, so I predicted he’d enjoy the extra panel here and he did closing down the stretch to finish second with all the other closers. I said not the favourite, but my pick to take it all. Wrong, as usual, favourite, but a solid second.
3rd Glee Night Rider Stables 26.75-1
Night Rider Stables were right to take advantage of a hot horse on a streak and move Glee up to grade one, where the recent $7.500 claimer came from seventh to within a quarter-length of grade one win.
4th General Zod Royalty Stables 3.75-1
Well, I thought he was the favourite, and I thought he had a very strong shot at winning, but as things set up with all those closers having a run at the wire in the end, he was kind of overwhelmed by deeper closers with larger heads of steam. Just an oddity of the race that kept him from being better placed.
