The Martha Washington [KYO]
OP Race #1 1m Dirt Stake
Purse $100.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.
1 Plea Deal, trained by Downwind Stables
There’s not much to see when you look at this horse, one run and still a maiden.
Fading out of a sprint maiden at TUP doesnt look like stakes winning form but
her trainer clearly has a much higher opinion of her than that. Her works havent
been overly good either so it would be a big shock to everyone but her trainer should
she run into a place today.
2 Sanny Senorita, trained by Bigking
Five races for one win this filly has been very consistent from her very first race
when she finished second at GG. Her win came in her second race, a competitive WO maiden
and since then she has collected a check in all her races. She ran well over the mile
in an Allowance at BEL and has worked pretty nicely giving her a fair chance in a fairly
weak field.
3 Regal Portrait, trained by Mb Stables
On paper this one looks the one to beat with an impressive win in the FL Sire Stakes My Dear.
She proved that big purse win in a small field was no fluke with a good fourth in the DED Princess
and ended the season with a slightly dissapointing fourth in an AQU overnight. Her works are good,
her trainer has a great record in these types of races and she has the black type to her name. The
only minus against her name would be the 2LB penalty and we have all seen how a couple of pounds
at HRP can be like taking a leg off.
4 Viking Christmas, trained by Delta Farms
Was consistent in maidens but took a while to break through taking a late season maiden at CD. Her
seasonal debut saw her staying on for second at SUN so she has clearly done well and her works are
right in the ball park to run well here.
5 Cammander, trained by Waldo
A good early season maiden winner she then found the going a bit tough when running in three black types
in the rest of her campaign. Probably her best run came in the Golden Rod where although she could
only finish seventh she showed up for a long way before weakening as can happen with the wide gate speed
push she had to cope with that day. She is clearly better than those efforts but there isnt much to
go on in the works and you have to take it on trust that she has improved for todays race.
6 Read Lips, trained by Heavens Own
An interesting runner with three wins from four races although this will be her first pay race after
running for teh Spinetingling stable in free races until bought a couple of weeks ago. Her works are a
tick off a few of these so that coupled with the wide draw could be enough to reluctantly pass her over.
SUMMARY
It should be simple to call Royal Portrait the winner in this but HRP form seems to mean very little
in these early season three year old stakes races and you have to be a little cautious when plunging
the mortgage down on her. Viking Christmas and Sanny Senorita have similar works so it just remains to
be seen who got most of the magic dust in teh change from two to three.
