Rubis Lights Up the Board in CC Canterbury

CC Canterbury ($150.000 Purse)
CD- For Three Year Olds and Upward
Five and a Half Furlongs on the Turf
November 16, 2024

Not many people gave Rubis a chance to win the CC Canterbury, as the Mental Bloch Racing gelding was the longest shot on the board at 36/1. You could understand that, though, since he was being moved from the dirt and the turf, and bettors did not have any recent turf works to go by. Sure enough, Rubis proved that he belonged here and enjoyed the grass as the ran with the leaders right from the start and prevailed at the end. It’s the first win in the CC Canterbury for both Mental Bloch Racing and jockey I Moncada. Congratulations to them! The time of the victory was 1:02.18, which really cannot be fairly compared to any prior edition of the race (2022 edition was not on firm turf). Let’s take it look at it now:

(1/4 Mile- :22.42)- A group of four horses contest the early lead, and getting the upper hand by a neck is the Mb Stables- trailed Scenario. Right to his inside, is the eventual winner of the race, Rubis, from Mental Bloch Racing, who rides the rail, while on the far outside South Star hangs with them for Onlineracingclub.com. Also with the lead group, is Proud Cup for Mb Stables. Stalking the pace, we have Big Turkey (Asgar) and Hawkman (Apache Warrior), and in the middle of the field are No Hitter (Maxmillion Farm) and Sweet People (Acber Farms), with King Of Prakith (Lanfranco Stable) running on the outside. Next are Mulch (Chili King Stables) and Sold (The Sidley Stud), and the trailers are Free Beer (Mb Stables) and the Spankys Barn pair of Reinvestment and Buck Ford.

(½ Mile- :45.08, Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Rounding the turn and entering the stretch, it’s a good battle at the front between Scenario and Rubis as they match one another’s stride. South Star is still within half of a length, and Proud Cup isn’t going anywhere. Hawkman starts to look for his lane to the inside, while Big Turkey loses some ground. Not much has changed behind them.

(Finish- 1:02.18)- Rubis and Scenario continue to battle it out between them up front, and they’ll keep a length advantage over the rest of the field as they do so. In the final furlong, Rubis would begin to look a little bit better, and that would continue to the wire as he ends up winning by almost a full length. Scenario will be second, holding off South Star, who fought hard to the end. Hawkman will take the fourth spot, and the late running Mulch is fifth. The rest of the order will read, King Of Prakith, Sweet People, Proud Cup, Reinvestment, Buck Ford, Sold, No Hitter, Free Beer, and Big Turkey.

About The Winner- Rubis, trained by Mental Bloch Racing and ridden to victory by I Moncada, is a four-year-old gelding by Crossing The Rubicon, and is out of Change Up. He was bred in Ontario by Wood Duck Stables as a third quarter two-year-old, and was acquired by Mental Bloch Racing, via Riggins Racing, with a $20.000 claim last month. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fourth in 13 starts and first stake win. His career earnings are now $251.700.
