3/9/24
6 SA San Simeon Stakes (GIII)
$100.000 4yo&Up 6 1/2f Turf (Downhill) 123lbs
Down the hill we go… a full field is set to go six and a half furlongs in the San Simeon Stakes (GIII) on Friday evening, and a lack of speed will not be an issue here. This group can fly, which makes it a very interesting race, from a handicapping perspective. Spankys Barn brings a 3-headed monster to the gate, and I’m looking for Bluesman to keep his hot hand going. He just missed over this course in the BC Turf Sprint (GI), second a neck, then won the GP Turf Sprint (GIII) to kick off his ’24 season, so he’s sharp, no doubt about it. Love Of The Derby has been more of a miler for Mb Stables, but he likes the front end and should good speed in this one… he won the Mathis Brothers Mile (GII) to close out ’23, and was third in the BC Mile (GI), both of those over this sod, so you know he like the SoCal weather. Let’s give Max’s Whoa Bo a chance as well… he just missed in that GP Turf Sprint (GIII) and always seems to be in the picture, although somewhat lightly raced… with 13 OTB finishes from 18 starts, you know he has what it takes.
