Saranac Up for Grabs

Saranac – Grade 3 – $200.000 Purse
KD – For Three Years Old
One Mile and a Sixteenth – InTurf
September 3, /2022

Last year’s winner, Nevada Silver, went on to win the BC Mile and is still very competitive at the highest levels. Will one of these follow in his footsteps? Elite Fire (High Voltage) looks strong, coming in off a win in graded company. Mr. Shark (Arindel) will try to extend his winning streak to three. Declassified Eros (Invicta Group Llc) is another stakes winner. Couldn’t make the leap to graded last out. Maybe this one will be the one.

Here’s the field:

#1 Deactivation (Mb Stables) Coming in off a win in optional claiming company at WO. Stakes winner at two. Still looking for that first graded win. This will be a tough place to earn it.

#2 Declassified Eros (Invicta Group Llc) Won the Oceanside two starts back but couldn’t make the step up to graded stakes in the Secretariat last out. Will need a big effort to win here.

#3 On The Seventh Day (Calia Stable) Won his maiden at CD by three in maiden special weight company, then repeated in a N1X at SAR last start, both in wire-to-wire style. Look for early speed from this one and he just might be there at the wire.

#4 Mezzogiorno (Nakamura Stables) Not much to recommend this one. Broke his maiden two starts back at maiden claiming $12.500 level. Seems outclassed in this field

#5 Disciplinary (Nakamura Stables) Has been competing at graded level since last July when he won the Sanford (G3), but not much luck since then. Don’t see him getting it done against these, but this is his first try on turf. Maybe he’ll have better luck on that surface

#6 Elite Fire (High Voltage) A win in the $100.000 Oceanport last out makes this gelding worth a look. Likes turf, loves the distance. Looks ready to take the next step up to graded.

#7 Mr Shark (Arindel) Back-to-back wins leading up to this race, including a win in the $125.000 Violette for NY-breds. In fact, all three of his wins have come in state-bred company. Might be too much to ask, but he has been working well and racing well. Wouldn’t count him out.

Picks: 7-6-2
