The biggest sprint race to run this weekend will showcase some very good sprinters who will be trying to get to the end year goal of the Breeders Cup Sprint. Some recent grade one winners and some routers turning back to sprints make it an interesting race so lets take a look at the field.
1. Vino Bambino (10-3-4-1 $204.040), trained by Chili King Stables
Last start he finished in a closing finish to run third by a head in tune Carter Handicap at AQU. He got beat by two horses that are also entered in this race so he will try and turn the tables on those two. Watch him down the stretch because he will most likely be flying late like he usually does.
2. Glorious (19-6-5-3 $862.720), trained by Smokey Stover
Last year’s Breeders Cup Sprint runner up returned to the winners circle in the Commonwealth at KEE in the muddy track. And with rain in the forecast that could help him out very well since he is already proven to like an off track. He’ll sit a stalking or midpack position most of the way so possibly will be closing at the line.
3. Crop Duster (17-3-7-1 $494.080), trained by Mb Stables
Looking at the form this looks like the trainers third string horse but he is a very live third string horse for sure. He ran a pretty bad race last start though but an excuse can be that the track was muddy and he just didn’t like the surface. He has a shot if he can run back to his Malibu runner up performance.
4. Commanding Brit (18-3-7-4 $321.400), trained by Lemax Farms
Also a runner in the muddy Commonwealth he ran a not so great sixth. The time before he won the GP Sprint Championship impressively. If the ran comes this horse is oh for two on an off track but if it’s fast he has a better chance. He’s usually up closer to the pace so a slow pace will help him.
5. Spring Lover (24-9-6-2 $2523.86), trained by Mb Stables
The runner up in this race last year he was also a participant the derby two years ago. He’s been around the block at CD a couple times and definitely has a legitimate shot to win this race. He has done his recent running close to the pace so a gentle pace will help his good chance to hold on late.
6. Scripted (11-4-3-2 $484.330), trained by Mb Stables
Maybe the best horse the Mb Stables contingent he won the Carter at AQU which was a grade one going the same distance of seven furlongs. He likes to close from behind so a quick pace will benefit him unlike his stalemate to his inside Spring Lover. He has a very good shot and will be tough.
7. Out On A Limb (20-5-5-2 $737.220), trained by Smokey Stover
The second entry from Smokey Stover is a horse who I believe is a better mile horse. He ran second in last year’s Breeders Cup Dirt Mile closing from way back. I don’t think he is a great sprinter but if the race falls apart up front because of berserk fractions he might have a chance to catch them.
8. Red Matic (16-4-1-3 $500.100), trained by Witeout Stables
Another bad finisher from that common race of the muddy Commonwealth where he finished seventh. He also ran a bad ninth in the Breeders Cup Sprint last and hasn’t found the winners circle since late August of last year. He could have a good shot on his very best day but I don’t know if he’ll bring it.
9. Seminole (12-3-5-2 $363.000), trained by On The Map Racing
This horse had been in great form but there’s only one problem… it’s been routing, and I do not know if he can sprint with the best sprinters out there. He did work very fast though at five furlongs so he might have a longshot chance to win this race. The only question is if be can win going seven furlongs.
10. Lucky Star (17-4-9-1 $338.080), trained by Smokey Stover
The third horse from trainer Smokey Stover is a horse with the case of seconditis. Over half of his races have resulted in second place finishes. Second in the Carter at AQU last out by a nose he is another horse who comes from near the back of the pack. If the pace is hot he’ll be rolling late.
11. Palestinian (28-10-5-4 $970.230), trained by Nakamura Stables
If it rains this is one of the better chances because he is two for two on an off track in his career. He does run well from behind so like others a fast pace will help him a lot so he can close. If the track comes up anything other than fast he has a better chance then he would if there was no rain.
12. Oversell It (38-16-5-6 $1292.610), trained by Team 7 Illusions
The oldie but goodie in here the most seasoned runner in here with almost forty career starts in his life. He’s really been running good lately and just won a statebred stakes at SA. He won this race lay year on a sloppy track so he’s looking for a repeat win and if it rains it will not hurt his chances at all.
13. De Fuego (16-6-4-1 $157.250), trained by Defoe

Summary
The big question is if it’ll turn out with a fast or muddy track on race day. If it’s muddy some will have better chances and if it’s a fast track others will have better chances. Of course we have to look at Mb Stables and Smokey Stover horses and they will be tough no doubt. If the post doesn’t hurt too much Oversell It will have a good shot.
