On your mark, ready set, lets go! The Breeders Futurity is where I go! And that’s where my attempt to create rap lyrics for this race will end, but I do love the song. Serenity Stables has a good looking two year old by Laffin Five Oh that looks to be ready to have a strong career. It’s good to see some “Laffin” sires continuing the legacy as well, and not just the latest sons of Charley Farley or Commanding in the headlines all the time. Serenity acquired this one in the auction last month for $55.010, and has had immediate success with him in two races. Now, he will be going to the BC, and will look to ride him out as long as he can. It is the trainer’s first win in the stake, and that is true for J R Leparoux as well. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:46.04 on the muddy going. Let’s take a look!

(1/4 Mile- :23.89)- Would it be a horse starting from the outside getting the early lead? You betcha! Residency, from Mb Stables gives himself the outside push forward and takes the lead going into the first turn by about a full length. Also starting well, and in close proximity would be Sneaky Chuck, from Aer Stables, and Hard To Kill, another of the Mb Stables runners. Sitting just off the lead, two and a half lengths back would be the D J C Racing Stables post time favorite, Golden Boy on the inside, and Axeman’s Cryptomining. From there, it’s the back, as a group runs four wide. Our eventual winner, Get Jiggy With It, from Serenity Stables, is part of this pack, running in the second lane, but at this time having a good clear view in front of him. To his inside would be Brazen Deception (Nakamura Stables) and Tongariro (Smokey Stover) was to his outside, just like they were in the starting gate. Senora West (Mb Stables) ran in the four wide position here. The trailers would be Not A Pretty One (Estero Farms), Scarlet Ninja (Joshua Stables), and Call Me Godd (Sir Daniel Martin).

(½ Mile- :48.29)- As they make their way around the opening turn, and into the backstretch, Sneaky Chuck handles the going quite well, taking the lead. In fact, he starts to open up a bit on the field now, as he leads by a growing length. Residency is still second, and midway through the stretch, Hard To Kill moves up along side of him. The gap from third to fifth would be three lengths, but in the middle of that we see Cryptomining, running all by himself, but wanting to remain in the fourth lane instead of moving closer to the rail. Tongariro and Get Jiggy With It are still in the middle of four wide, and each have to love the amount of open racetrack staring right at them. Senora West is still to their outside, but the one to their inside is Golden Boy, who lost a lot of ground early in the backstretch. That pushed back Brazen Deception to run with those who were trailing. Call Me Godd, Not A Pretty One, and Scarlet Ninja were still saving ground.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Sneaky Chuck continues to show the way with a steady stride as they finish the backstretch trip, and round the turn, but they are closing in on him now. Hard To Kill continued to run in the stalking position, and at the top of the stretch, prepared to make an outside move, but the story was what was happening behind him. All of that glorious opening that was calling Get Jiggy With It and Tongariro by name to take advantage of, would see the two of them do just that. Also moving forward here would be Golden Boy, but for him it would be making up track position that he once had. Around the turn, you knew it was coming, and both Get Jiggy With It and Tongariro closed in on the leaders rather easily. On exit of the turn, though, Get Jiggy With It started pulling away from Tongariro as well. Cryptomining was very courteous to remain on the outside and let his rivals have this opening. Senora West was also advancing, but had to maneuver around Cryptomining. Residency was dropping back. Scarlet Ninja made up a good amount of ground, and only had one option for the stretch, and that was to swing out very wide. Call Me Godd looked to come up the center of the field while Not A Pretty One opted to watch the action.

(Finish- 1:46.04)- While things could not have set up any smoother for Get Jiggy With It, his run in the stretch was very impressive. He exploded through the back, and left them in his dust. There were two able to run with him, one being Scarlet Ninja, who did a tremendous job swinging to the outside, and running in full stride for the stretch. He would miss by a head, but when you compare the trips of the top two, you can make a case that Scarlet Ninja was a little more impressive here. At any rate, these two both have a promising future ahead of them, both in the BC Juvenile, and beyond. Golden Boy, the third place finisher, just missed as well. Plenty to like with him as well, though the trainer may be wondering why he dropped back in the backstretch to run with Get Jiggy With It, instead of remaining ahead of him. After these three, you have to go back two and a half lengths to find anyone else. Claiming the fourth place check would be Call Me Godd, who just got by Hard To Kill and Tongariro. Plenty of promise there for Sir Daniel Martin to be excited about. Hard To Kill was steady, though not impressive in the stretch, and Tongariro was well beaten by Get Jiggy With It in the stretch after the two had run level most of the way. Senora West and Brazen Deception would be next with uneventful runs, and the pacesetting Sneaky Chuck settles for ninth. Cryptomining was tenth, but wins the award for most polite horse of the race. Not A Pretty One never got involved, and Residency packed it in early.

About The Winner- Get Jiggy With It, trained by Serenity Stables, and ridden to victory by J R Leparoux, is a two year old gelding by Laffin Five Oh, and is out of No Peeking Angie. He was bred in Texas by Broken Spoke Stables as a first quarter two year old, and acquired by Serenity Stables in the September 2018 auction for $55.010. Congratulations to the connections! The win is third in four starts, his second stake win, and first graded win. His career earnings are now $364.400.
