3 BEL The Vagrancy Handicap (GIII)
$200.000 4yo&Up F&M 6 1/2f Dirt Hcp Weights
The girls will go sprinting here in Elmont, NY on Saturday as we look at the field of seven set to go six and a half furlongs in The Vagrancy Hcp (GIII) on Big Sandy. We have a very interesting group of horses here and it’s a wide open affair in my eye. I’m giving the edge to the rail horse, Class Status. She comes in with a pair of wins and looks like a horse that is getting better each time out, has a nice local breeze coming into the race and I love her consistency. She is versatile in her running style and I just have a feeling about her. I’m going to give You Just Have 2 Wait the second spot, just on her class alone. She won the Test (GI) last summer at The Spa, and I just want to see her wake back up and get after it again.
You could give a bunch of these a serious thought, but I’ll go with the picks and hope for the best.
Here’s the Field –
|
Class Status | Team 7 Illusions | Lezcano J | 120 | 7/2 |
Comes into this one with back-to-back wins including a nose victory in the Go For Wand Hcp (GIII) at AQU, last out. She’s been using her speed of late, but did come from way back in the Raven Run (GII) when second beaten a half length. She hasn’t been worse than third since switching hands back a year ago and has only been off the board once in her carrer. She can run.

Deliberate Miss | Mb Stables | Davis D | 118 | 6/1 |
Nice two-length win at TAM last out taking down OptAlw types in pretty handy fashion. Her recent stakes efforts have been less than thrilling including a fourth place finish in the Bayakoa (GIII) at OP to kick off this season. She needs to turn the corner soon if she wants to get back to her 3yo form.
|
Steady Sneaks | John Henry | Ortiz J L | 120 | 8/1 |
Took down a FLA-bred stakes in Nov and it’s been a bit of a struggle since. DH for third in the Fritchie (GIII) at LRL then a pair of up-the-track finishes around that race. She shows a trio of 6f works getting ready for today, but I’ll probably look at some others in the top spot for this one.
|
Think It Through | Winning Link Stables | Bejarano R | 118 | 5/1 |
Nice win after being plucked from the Mar Auction. She won vs. OptAlw types in SoCal over a wet strip and did it in fairly easy fashion. She had been consistent running against FLA bred prior to the auction buy, and she looks like she’s in good form right now. I’d give her a big look and she might have some odds with her.
|
Gingers A Ten | Maxmillion Farm | Carmouche K | 119 | 7/1 |
Hasn’t seen the winner’s circle since taking down WV-bred stakes horses at CT back in Aug of last season. She was up close in a few of those races in SoCal, but couldn’t get her picture taken. The last two have been less than thrilling including a seventh place finish at OP in her most recent. She will need her best to be any parts of this one.
|
You Just Have 2 Wait | Estero Farms | Court J K | 120 | 4/1 |
Won the Test (GI) last season, along with a GII and was only beaten two lengths on BC Day, but a runner up to Alw horses and a fourth last out, both at GP, certainly makes you wonder. She looked like one of the top 3yo fillies last season but hasn’t been her self since that big win at SAR.

Fill The Void | Mb Stables | Beschizza A | 118 | 7/2 |
Another quick horse that has been very consistent although not as much at the graded level. She was fourth in the Orchid (GIII) after setting the pace into the lane, then tiring. That was at a mile and three-eighths so the sprint distance should be more to her liking. Despite the outside post, I still think she has a chance here.
