5 GP The Hutcheson Stakes
$115.000 3yo 6f Dirt 122lbs +penalties
The TC Trail continues, but we can’t look past a nice group of sophomore sprinters going six panels in Saturday’s Hutchison Stakes, here in SoFla. Fractious won the past two renditions of this race, but his departures means no three-peat… so where do we go for our selections?
It seems apparent that Mb is pulling Meant To Be off of the trail, but the gelding has shown a real liking at these sprint distances, so I’ll give him the edge in this one. He broke maiden at CD but was a tiring fifth in the San Vincent (GII) and tired late again in the Davis (GIII), so it’s back to the abbreviated distance, where he does show a lot of promise.
I will head down to the rail for the second choice and give Aggravated Jung a shot. He’s won four of seven starts, on the board in two other races, and really seems to like the distance. Patient handling and pure speed… dangerous. A few of these have state-bred stakes wins that add weight, but they certainly could be in the picture.
