RACE 15 PIM |
5/21/2016 Post Time 7:00PM |
THE PIM SPECIAL (GIII) | |
$300.000 3yo&Up 1 3/16m Dirt |
As if to be a microcosm of the track itself, this once important races is now just a GIII, yet we do have a nice field ready to go the odd mile and three-sixteenth’s distance in THE PIM SPECIAL (GIII). I may regret this but I’m going to put probably post time favorite Greek Poet on top. He won the SA Hcp (GI) last out, and although he was 17/1, that’s probably enough to give him the edge and the chalk in this race.
I’ll go to the rail and use Deputy Dynamite as my second choice. He may have some odds with him and I like the late kick that he normally uses. There may be a host of foes going after the front end and that could spell a great combination for this gelding.
I’m going to put Macht Nichts on my ticket here today. He’s another that may come with some odds and I just like his style and the rest he got off of those two races in 20 days. He has worked well for this and I look for a big effort.
Here’s the Field…
|
Deputy Dynamite | Blushing Meadows | Ortiz I Jr 7/1 | 124 |
Kind of an all-or-nothing sort… shows a couple of nice graded wins sprinkled with a couple of sixth place finishes facing similar. I guess the question is who do we get today? I like his chances here and should be a major factor when they run for the wire. Do not ignore him.
|
Elusive Image | Eastern Equine | Bejarano R 4/1 | 124 |
Wired a field of Alw horses at today’s distance while winning up north of the border. He won a stakes up there to close out his ’15 season but we know he’s consistent and certainly knows how to get the job done. If he can repeat that last-out performance, he’s probably right in the middle of things here.
|
Macht Nichts | Eastern Equine | Castellano J J 7/2 | 124 |
Sixth in the CT Classic where he just didn’t seem to get a good run at them on that evening. He had back-to-back graded wins prior to that, so if you can overlook that bull-ring outing, you’d have to give him a legitimate shot to get the win here. He was fourth in this race last season as a 3yo…
|
Conquest | D J C Racing Stables | Albarado R J 9/1 | 124 |
Has struggled a bit of late and other than that runner-up race at GP in March, he’s been on a cold streak for quite some time. His last win came back in July of last season in the IND Derby (GII) so he needs to wake up or it’s going to be another long day at the office.
|
Hyper Silver | Night Rider Stables | Bridgmohan S X 12/1 | 124 |
He’s been off of the board in his last four starts… now all of those have been against the best of the best, and he has been close in a couple of those outings, but you’d certainly like to see him put something together and it’s just been a while since that’s happened. Now a 7yo, he’s not getting any younger.
|
Greek Poet | Hawaiian Shirt Guy | Baze R A 6/5 | 124 |
Looks to be the obviously post time favorite off of that win at 17/1 odds in the SA Hcp (GI) where he closed well and got up in the end to take that one by a half length. In all honesty, I’m surprised he wasn’t longer odds that day… but, he comes into this race with a new lease on life and some big money in the bank.

Generals Companion | Maxmillion Farm | Velazquez J R 5/1 | 124 |
Got by some horses late at CT in that mega-rich pot, and won a GII prior to that down in LA taking the NO Hcp (GII) in wire-to-wire fashion. So what are the tactics today? on the front end and winging it, or trying to close? That question could be the answer to if he’s in this one or not.
