Turf Monster Handicap – Grade III (P6)
5 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $300.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Shelbags Lindeman Prairie Cedillo A
The trainer must be congratulated on their handling of this six year old that they acquired in June 2020 for just $9 from a 12 furlong claimer. Since that day he has only run in turf sprints and has been gently brought through his late improvement curve to a first graded stakes win today. A winner of seven from fourteen since being claimed this was great effort from the perfect draw which he used perfectly. Settling nicely out of the gate just behind the speed he never stopped forward motion and won in a sizzling sub 56 second race time.
This one has developed into a very fast turf sprinter and moves into the top ten qualification spots for the BC Turf Sprint where i feel he will be a decent chance.
2nd Rising King Maxmillion Farm Jaramillo E
The Turf Monster himself was tamed here as this four year old wasn’t fast enough out of the gates and ended up paying the price. He missed the break two races back as well so is a pretty inconsistent starter and that is tough for races like this that go at break neck speeds. He kept on well enough for second but his form will continue to look inconsistent all the time he cannot find his legs out of the gate.
3rd Wingman Angelos Stable Ryan S
Got back and kept on but was never closer than he was at the post. Another solid effort i just get the feeling he is a bot better over six than five furlongs.

Got away well and was close to the speed but this trip is just a bit sharp for him and he struggled inside the final furlong. It can often happen that horses who prefer further can looked one paced in fast sprints and i feel that is what happened here.
