Silverbulletday Stakes (KYO)- $150.000 Purse
FG- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile and Seventy Yards on the Dirt
January 16, 2021
Shes A Super Freak could have continued running on the turf after finishing fourth in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf, but for a three year old during this time of year, the better opportunities are certainly on the dirt. Shes A Super Freak, after running in the BC would head to the dirt for the Grade 1 Starlet, and didn’t have a bad race, but also would not pick up a check. Here in the Silverbulletday Stakes a month later, we would see run a different race tactically, being with the leaders at the start instead of trying to come from off the pace and that would prove to be to her liking as she scores the win. She is trained by YME Stable, earning him his first win in the stake. V Espinoza, the winning rider, is also a first time winner. Congratulations to them! The race was run in a time of 1:39.91. Let’s take a look!
(¼ Mile- :24.15)- Derby Girl gets out to the early advantage for Nakamura Stables, and does so by about two lengths over the second place Big Challenge, from Waldo. Our eventual winner sits just off the lead, running in the third position while on the rail about another length back, and she has Greeko Holdem’s Pie Hole right to her outside. American Phoerest (Royalty Stables) is fifth in the third lane. Next up, Creepy Crawlies (Mb Stables) and Kimbo Star (Maxmillion Farm) run together in the middle of the field, and Tall And Fast (Arindel) is about a half length behind them. The trailers are Bay Of Indy (Serenity Stables), E Road (Fractious), Match On A Fire (Alydar Stables) and Fuzzy Lovin (Arindel).
(½ Mile- :47.55)- As they finish the backstretch portion, it is still Derby Girl out in front, but the field is beginning to close in on her at the top of the turn. Big Challenge had been creeping closer through the second half of the backstretch, and was now close to being even with her at the front. Shes A Super Freak has had a good trip to the point, and is able to smoothly move down a lane, allowing her the potential to split the frontrunners if she chose to make a move here. American Phoerest was fourth on the outside, and both Creepy Crawlies and Pie Hole were closing in on the leaders. Kimbo Star, who had been with Creepy Crawlies earlier, did not advance with her, and now was falling into the clutches of Tall And Fast. E Road was starting to move forward a little, and had a huge opening on the side right in front of her for the turn.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.9F To Go)- Almost immediately into the turn, Derby Girl put on the brakes and began backing out of it. This allowed Big Challenge to take the lead rather easily, and she looked to take advantage of this chance to try and pull away from the rest of the field as well. Shes A Super Freak was not going to allow her to get away, however, and continued to keep pace with her while still running along the rail She trailed by a length and a half, but was now a length ahead of American Phoerest and Creepy Crawlies, two that were closer to her before. Pie Hole was beginning to back out of it. Kimbo Star and Tall And Fast ran steady in the middle of the field, but were not pushing forward. The filly that was doing so was E Road, but even she could have made a little more progress in the turn than what she actually did. Bay Of Indy was starting to show some interest for the first time.
(Finish- 1:39.91)- While Big Challenge did look good for a while, about midway through the stretch, Shes A Super Freak kept the pressure on, and Big Challenge would not be able to withstand the Super Challenge, and approaching the wire, Shes A Super Freak would poke a head in front to get this win and the valuable 10 KYO points. Big Challenge was a game second place finisher, and E Road’s late push gets her third. Creepy Crawlies takes the fourth place check over the late running Bay Of Indy. Rounding out the order, its Kimbo Star, American Phoerest, Tall And Fast, Match On A Fire, Pie Hole, Fuzzy Lovin, and Derby Girl.
