One Mile on the Turf

Six horses went to the starting gate for the ONT Colleen Stakes, and weather would not be a problem this far north, so the turf course was firm. This would be a race where the horses that were expected to do the best ended up stepping up and running well. Our top two in the preview finished in those positions, but in the reverse order. Pulling off the win would be Shes One Of a Kind, for Maxmillion Farm, and it is her second win in three races. It gives the trainer, as well as jockey S X Bridgmohan, their first wins in the race. It would be run in a time of 1:33.44, which is in line with other past winning times. Here’s a look at it!

(¼ Mile- :23.51)- Three horses are at the front of the pack, with D J C Racing Stables owned Four Wheel Drive starting a lot better than she would finish. She had a very slight advantage over our eventual race winner, Shes One Of A Kind, from Maxmillion Farm. Just after a passing this point, Shes One Of A Kind would take over the lead. Party In The Brig runs third for Mo Mentum Farm, and is within half a length on the rail. In the middle of the field, we have Here Comes Mary (La Canada Racehorses) and Viva (Arindel). It’s about four more lengths to the trailer, Sass (Arindel).

(½ Mile- :46.51)- The pace of the race picks up a little bit during the second quarter mile, and that is due to Shes One Of a Kind pushing to the front and now opening up a length lead over the two she had been running with. Four Wheel Drive still held the second spot, while Party In The Brig was third, but lost valuable ground to the horse that she would be trying to catch up to later in the race. Along Comes Mary and Viva remained in the middle of the field without showing the intentions to advance forward up to this point. Sass continued to be well off the pace.

(Top Of Stretch, 2F To Go)- Shes One A Kind does a great job in the turn, pulling away from her rivals so much that she is clear by about two lengths entering the stretch. Without anyone making any sort of progress on her up to this point, it seemed as though it was in the bag. Four Wheel Drive was backing out of it, and Party In The Brig was not able to mount a challenge. Along Comes Mary was showing more interest, but she had a large deficit to make up at this point. Viva was lacking response, and Sass was probably trying to find out why she was running on grass.

(Finish- 1:33.44)- It didn’t seem like anyone was going to catch Shes One Of A Kind, and no one would. She would hold her advantage all the wire, winning in very comfortable and methodical fashion by two lengths. Party In The Brig never got close to her, but was good enough to hold off Along Comes Mary and Viva for third. Sass beat the exhausted Four Wheel Drive for the fifth spot.

About The Winner- Shes One Of A Kind, trained by Maxmillion Farm, and ridden to victory by S X Bridgmohan, is a three year old filly by Combastic, and is out of Glittering. She was bred as a first quarter two year old in Califronia by Brh Stables and acquired by Maxmillion Farm, via LionKing Stables, when she was still unraced in private sales for $35.000 in April 2020. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in 13 starts, and her first stake win of any sort. Her career earnings are now $304.330.
