The NY Stallion Series – Staten Island- NG
AQU Race 3 7F- Dirt
Purse $125.000
Three Year Olds and Up Fillies and Mares
Here we have a group of five runners for the New York Stallion Series Staten Island over seven furlongs here on the Aqueduct oval. This is a very small field but there are some very talented runners in here and four of the five are coming out of stakes races. Let’s take a look at the quintet.
1. Hands Up (20-3-7-3 $205.320), trained by The Sidley Stud
And here we are with our first runner in the field and this filly is coming into this race off of two runner up finishes in two statebred stakes races in a row. She ran second in the Iroquois last time at Belmont by a length with a closing finish. If she runs like she did that day she has a good chance.
2. Sweetgrass (12-3-1-3 $107.730), trained by D J C Racing Stables
Now this filly right here is coming into this race out of some stiff competition in her last couple of races. She ran in the grade three Indiana Oaks, grade one Test and the grade two TC of America. She didn’t run to bad in any of them actually and her races in there definitely give her a good chance here.
3. Wolfslayer (12-1-8-1 $120.500), trained by Maxmillion Farm
Well this filly here has a bad case of seconditis because she has eight seconds in twelve starts. I’m not sure what it is she just can’t seem to get to the wire first. She ran fourth last out in the Iroquois at Belmont by a length. She will have to get over the seconditis to have a chance to win.
4. Campfired (14-3-2-1 $153.330), trained by Team 7 Illusions
And another filly who is coming out of the Iroquois at Belmont and this filly split the inside horse and the horse right to her inside when she ran third by a length. There was hardly anything that separated those three in that race so we’ll see who gets the best of them in this race.
5. Rock Onn (9-1-2-0 $27.960), trained by Night Mare Racing
Well right here is what I am going to have say is the weakest entry in this field for sure. She is coming off of a fourth place finish in an allowance at Golden Gate where she ended up getting beat by five lengths after setting the pace. I just don’t see her having much of a chance in this race.
Summary
This looks like a pretty good and even matched field really besides the outside runner with three horses coming out of the same race and barely even being separated when they ran. My top pick will be Sweetgrass on the drop from this graded stakes races. Good luck to all in the race.
