One Mile and One Half on the Turf

Sioux Arrival has been close to a big win over his last few races and was only defeated by a length in the Sword Dancer as he tried to pick up his “win and you’re in” victory for the BC Turf up at SAR. A month later, he now knows that he will be a part of the field in that race, as he pulls off a narrow win! He is trained by High Voltage and was ridden by F Prat. For each, it is their first win in the KD Turf Cup. Congratulations to them! The time of the win on the soft going was 2:32.46. Let’s take a look at it:

(½ Mile- :49.38)- State Cavier is the race’s early leader, leading by a length down the front stretch and into the opening turn for Diablo Diablo. Next will come American Generals for Riggins, who is a half-length ahead of the third place Mb Stables- trained King Z. Fanatical Empire runs fourth on the rail for Bigchief Stables, himself only about a length and a half back. Sitting just off the lead in fifth is our eventual winner from High Voltage, Sioux Arrival, with Great Vault nearby for Winning Link Stables, then Spankersville (The Sidley Stud) and Martinez (Spankys Barn). There’s a gap of four behind them to the trailing trio, consisting of Red Bull (D J C Racing Stables), Dangerous Fugitive (Night Rider Stables), and looking to play spoiler off the also eligible list, Sunshine Superman (Barcelona Farms).

(3/4 Mile- 1:11.68)- State Cavier still holds the top spot as they work their way down the backstretch, and he leads a group of three right behind them by a length and a half. There’s very little separating those three as American Generals, King Z, and Fanatical Empire match one another’s stride. Sioux Arrival is the one right behind them, and he is positioned to go four wide once F Prat decides it’s time to make a move. Great Vault is still nearby, but they put a length or so on Spankersville and Martinez. Further back, Red Bull, Dangerous Fugitive, and Sunshine Superman have only lost more ground midway through this race.

(Top of Stretch, 2F To Go)- At the top of the long turn, F Prat would let Sioux Arrival know that the time was now for him charge forward. He had still been positioned to run four wide, and quickly pulled even with American Generals, King Z, and Fanatical Empire. But his work was not done, and he was not going to waste time looking to get the next one to catch, State Cavier. Once at the top of the stretch, Sioux Arrival had arrived up front right alongside State Cavier, but that one was not going to let it be an easy pass. There were others to watch here as well, mainly Martinez, who left Spankersville behind to make a push on the outside. For a moment, it seemed like he might even get Sioux Arrival, but once he was a length behind that one, he could not get closer during the turn. Further back, Sunshine Superman was full of run, making up six lengths behind the three-quarter mark, and this part of the race. Perhaps, he could pull off an upset at 43/1.

(Finish- 2:32.46)- Sioux Arrival battled it out with State Cavier for a little while in the stretch, before ultimately completing the pass and looking to hold off any other late runners. There were concerns, one being Martinez, but Sunshine Superman was going to be a problem for our new leader. From way the pace, he had done all he could, and once they hit the wire, it would be very close between these two. Once the photo was checked, it would be Sioux Arrival winning by a head over Sunshine Superman, and the gritty stretch performance by State Cavier was not wasted, as he holds off Martinez for third. It was nearly three lengths from Martinez to the fifth place King Z, and the remaining order is Red Bull, Fanatical Empire, Spankersville, American Generals, Great Vault, and Dangerous Fugitive.

About The Winner- Sioux Arrival, trained by High Voltage and ridden to victory by F Prat, is a five-year-old gelding by Sioux and is out of the late Secretive. He was bred in Florida by El Primero Rodeo as a third quarter two-year-old and was acquired by High Voltage for $20.000 in a January 2023 private sale. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his sixth in 24 starts, his fifth stake win and fourth graded win. His career earnings are now $2,191.580.
