After chasing Lucky Star last month at BEL, Sioux Gathering turned the tables and ran on to victory in Thursday’s $175.000 G3 Schuylerville at SAR.  The opening day feature for the Spa, The Schuylerville-G3 is the 2nd G3 victory for winning-trainer Rock Creek and firmly cements Sioux Gathering as one to watch going forward.  The winner now has a bankroll of $160.800 with two wins and a show effort from three starts.

As expected, Lucky Star cleared the field; however, Sioux Gathering broke well enough to hold her rail position in the closest group of pursuers.  The eventual winner sat in the pocket as Lucky Star posted fractions of :22.60 and :45.56 for the opening quarter and half.  

Spun Around, traveling in the four path, and Sioux Gathering engaged the leader at the top of the lane and the trio formed a line as five furlongs went in :57.46.  Sioux Gathering, not having to leave the rail, made the pass just inside the furlong marker, but Spun Around never allowed her to extend the lead as she tried to keep pace with the winner.  As those two were engaged, Apache Farm made a bold rally into a sliver of a hole on the inside to make it a three-way photo at the wire.  In the end, it was Sioux Gathering that crossed the wire in 1:09.69 to post a half-length victory over the duo of Spun Around and Apache Farm as they settled for a DH 2nd.  Perfect Illusion rallied on the outside to take 4th just a neck in front of another DH duo of La Creepy Cat and Lucky Star.  Tactfully finished 7th, just ahead of another DH duo (Long Term Parking and Parade Leader) while Style, Off And On, and Proud Spell completed the order of finish.
