Sirens Blaring Gutsy In DEL Oaks Triumph

July 15, 2015

Sirens Blaring rode a three-race winning streak and a massive purchase by owner D J C Racing Stables into DEL for the Grade III DEL Oaks, and rode out of there a winner with arguably the gutsiest victory from a three-year-old filly all season long. A sophomore daughter of duel Grade I winner and BC Sprint runner-up Mr Feelgood, she has excelled at route distances in her eight race career and now sports six victories, two runner-up placings and more than $640.000 in career earnings, enough to rocket her up the rankings with sights set on Grade I events down the road.

Longshot Kentucky Fried Chick (27.65) and favourite Sirens Blaring (*1.55) were first out of the gate in the DEL Oaks and established the lead going into the first turn, while Pure Lisa (1.65) did a good job holding both of them wide. As the leader got down to the rail, the favourite was still out wide through the opening quarter-mile in 23.60 but she quickly ranged up to the front and pushed forward to secure the lead into the backstretch. Two by two with a lone straggler, everyone found their seat and looked comfortable through the second split of 47.33, with Broomsticks N Booty (2.25) getting the worst of things bottled up along the rail with nowhere to go. Sirens Blaring opened up to a length on Kentucky Fried Chick around the far turn, and kept to her task while two-wide, and that forced the hand of both Pure Lisa and Broomsticks N Booty as they both moved out for their shot. Through six-furlongs in a rapid 1:10.98, it looked like the leader was starting to weaken and the fresh horses were coming to her fast with a sprint to the finish line all but inevitable. But a smart move from Sirens Blaring to the rail, while her rivals were still wide, gave her just enough momentum to hold on for the gutsiest of wins and after seemingly being passed by Broomsticks N Booty, she was able to hold on by a whisker. Pure Lisa was another nose back in third after pressing at every point down the lane, Kentucky Fried Chick backed up to finish in fourth and Queen Of The Desert (12.60) was last throughout in what was a tough start for her Graded Stakes career.

Off a huge win in the Grade III Fantasy, and a mammoth score at WO against easier, Sirens Blaring was purchased for $410.000 privately and responded in kind for her new owners with a stirring win in the Grade III DEL Oaks, earning back nearly half of that price with her $180.000 paycheck. The Grade I CCA Oaks might come up a little bit too quickly for her so she might have to wait until the Grade I Alabama or the Fleet Indian if she hopes to continue her winning streak against this level of competition.

Congratulations goes out to owner D J C Racing Stables and their three-year-old filly Sirens Blaring, a hard fought winner of the Grade III DEL Oaks!
