The Hudson, Purse $150, Ungrded, 6 and ½ furlongs, Dirt for 3+
This weekend is the calm before the storm of the Breeders Cup so the stakes action is lighter then normal. Today at Belmont we have a series of NY bred stakes races which include this one for male sprinters. Let’s take a look at the field and see if we can separate some of these runners:
1-Aesome Ruler (D J C Racing Stables)- He has started 15 times with 3 wins 2 seconds and 4 thirds in his racing career. 2015 has not been his best year starting 9 times with 1 win coming from those starts but that win did come in his last race when he was placed in an allowance race sprinting on the dirt. A lot of his early starts were on the derby trail but he looks to be happy to be back sprinting. He has also won a state bred stakes in the past sprinting on the dirt which shows he has the class to step up and win here.
2-Clear Blue (Captinj)- He has started 7 times with 2 wins and 4 thirds in his racing career. He has never made a start out of NY and all of his starts have come in state bred races so today will be no different. He comes into the race winning his last start sprinting on the dirt in an allowance race. The win came after 3 consecutive 3rd place finishes against winners. This is his first step up into Stakes Company and will have to make a jump to beat some of these.
3-Articulate (Running Farms)- He has started 11 times with 2 wins a second and a third in his career. Both of his wins have come in 2015 in 6 starts. The wins actually came in back to back races routing on the dirt and were the first 2 starts of his 3 year olds seasons. Off those wins he was stepped up into Stakes Company for 4 straight races and did not manage to hit the board in any of those races. He will have to step up a bit today to get this win.
4- Rocked That (MB Stables)- He has started 9 times with a win and 4 second place finishes in his career. He has been a popular horse trading hands several times and has been with 5 owners during that 9 race streak. His win came back last year sprinting on the turf and since that race he has spent most of his time in the claiming ranks. He is being stepped up into this race off a 2nd place finish in a $20 claimer. He will have to step up to take down this field.
5-Man Eater (Asgar)- He has started 32 times with 10 wins 4 seconds and 3 thirds in his racing career. He was claimed in a race 5 back for $6.25 and off that claim he was immediately stepped up into Stakes Company. He did well on that step up and won that stakes race which was an overnight stakes for NY Bred horses sprinting on the dirt. He tried stakes company in his next 3 races after that effort and finished 2nd and then off the board in the next 2. That stakes win shows he has the ability to win here.
6-Generals A Thief (MB Stables)-He has started 23 times with 8 wins 2 seconds and 4 thirds in his racing career. He has been in very good form winning 4 out of his last 5 races including his last 2 races. His most recent with was a nice win in a state bred stakes race going long on the dirt at Saratoga. He has shown the ability to sprint as the bulk of his wins have come running shorter so I don’t think the cut back in distance will hurt this one at all. He has to be one of the horses to be based upon his recent form.
This is a nice state bred stakes race that has some horses with some class coming into the race. I could see the results going a number of different directions. With that said here is my prediction: 6-1-5-2
