3 TAM The Lightning City Stakes
$100.000 4yo F&M 5f Turf
Sprinting Ladies will be on the menu as we head down to Tampa for The Lightning City Stakes, a five furlong dash on the lush TAM sod. I really can’t land on anything in this one, so let’s talk about The Green Card. They like Lannys All In today, and that last out win at SUN was in quick time. She didn’t win last season, but was on the board in half of her starts, so I can see the like. Fire Tech is their second selection and she has been tough since changing hands in Nov. She just missed vs. stakes horses then won at odds-on facing Alw types. I think this is about as wide open as a race can be, so I’ll grab a cold snack and just watch.
Here’s The Field –

Terra Command | Threshold | Gallardo A A | 122 | 4/1 |
Closed out her ’22 season by lighting the tote in the Chaluki (GIII) at CD, getting home by three-quarters of a length at nearly 70/1 odds. That was her third win of the ’22 season, and she had a pair of runner-up efforts, so I’m not sure why they ignored her. Here, well… I would not call her a sprinter, so I’m not sure what to expect. This may be a warm-up race.

Lannys All In | South Beach Racing | Morales P | 122 | 5/1 |
Kicked-off ’23 with a nice win, taking down sprinting types on the main track at SUN. She didn’t win in ’22, so she’s ahead of the curve already. They bring her back to turf course where she has a 3/1/2 line from eight starts, so this could be a spot where she gets the job done.
|
Hitch A Ride | South Shore Stables | Lopez J E | 122 | 7/1 |
No wins in ’22 and she has to turn around a poor form if she want to be part of this one. Last of twelve in the TC of America (GII) at KEE, showed little when seventh in the Zareta at FG then beat one vs. Alw company at GP. Can she find the old magic?
|
Spectate | Asgar | Wenc I C | 122 | 9/2 |
She’s been claimed twice in her last six races, so there’s no doubt that people see potential, and she’s stepped up to be potent at vs. stakes company. She was last in the Rosewater, then just missed in the LAPN Bons Temp Starter stakes, both in vs. LA bred. She comes back to the grass, looking to continue the build.
|
Fire Tech | Ajm Stables | Castanon J L | 122 | 5/1 |
Private purchased two starts back for $25.000 and has been tough for the new connections. Second in the Abudantia on the GP grass, then won a nice N4L Alw race at TUP, so she’s running big for this outfit. I’d give her a look today, as well.
|
Finest Wine | TwinTowersRacing | Feliciano R | 122 | 9/2 |
Three wins and three thirds from eleven lifetime starts, so she can run a little, no doubt. Won an Alw race at TUP to close out ’22 and was third in the Las Cienegas Stakes (GIII) at SA, on the down-hill course, last out. She looks ready to run a big race and this could be her day.
