ELP Derby – $250.000
ELP – 1 Mile – Dirt
For Three Year Olds
August 13, 2023
1 Two Million (Asgar)
Won the Crescent City Derby at FG against state-bred company in March. Won in N1X company two starts back, then tried to step up to graded level in the Marine last out and finished a respectable fourth. Works are not as strong as some, but I wouldn’t count him out.
2 Deep State (Sccj Stables)
You’d have to go back to December for a win from this gelding. That came in the $400.000 RP Springboard Mile. That and the points he picked up in the San Felipe and the BG Stakes earned him a berth in the KYD where he finished seventh. Drops in class here and will be tough to beat if he gets a clean trip.
3 Neon Town (Pan Farms)
Changed hands in April for $200.000. Since then, he is two for two with a win in the LA Legends Cheval and the Dwyer. Another one dropping in class and another one that could take home money in this contest. And a win wouldn’t be a surprise.
4 Mellow Magic (Riggins Racing)
Purchased in February for $85.000. This gelding won the Barrera (Grade 3), then finished third behind Neon Town in the Dwyer with a poor showing in the Stephens in between. Working well but will need to step it up a bit to compete here.
5 Wyatt Langmore (Fractious)
Claimed for back for $25.000 and has proven to be a bargain with a win in the $100.000 King Corrie sandwiched between second place finishes, the latest of which came in the Maxfield last out. Even so, he has got his work cut out for him against these.
6 The Alchemist (Nakamura Stables)
Won in optional claiming company two starts back but has not been able to hit the board in graded company since winning the Street Sense back in October. Should appreciate the drop in class. Can go to the lead and does his best running from there. But he will need to bring his A-game to compete with these.
